Re: Official Thread of Brag
First attempt at the junior goatdown 15 gave me a max game with loads of 7s. May be a hard record to beat? What it shows you whilst playing (but doesn't show you on the review) is the metamax for this game is 109 so I messed up 1 point.

Could you define perfect picking? I'm confused as you missed the max in two consecutive rounds.

A long time in the making. My first max game http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=116700
Almost had a heart attack when I nearly left ESOTERIC mistyped as my keyboard was playing up! So I decided to take my time typing in the conundrum but luckily it was the easiest scramble in history. Ever.

Re: Official Thread of Brag
I dare say that my being second in the rankings after Innis won't last long now that I've made it known, but I decided to play a few games using the French dictionary version.
http://www.apterous.org/allplayers.php?variant=0&dic=2
Although, not being fluent, I only get mainly 4 or 5 letter words, with sometimes 6, and less frequently 7, since there are only 3 other players apart from Prune (and I've been playing Prune!), I'm second (out of 5!).
I was rather please to get a conundrum once, although it was rather a guess. Means SLIDE apparently.

That's pretty cool, maybe I'll give it a try. I'm amused that Martin Gardner is ranked #3 despite being a fluent speaker and rather an expert in French Scrabble (using the same dictionary).Julie T wrote:I dare say that my being second in the rankings after Innis won't last long now that I've made it known, but I decided to play a few games using the French dictionary version.

The statistics are rather skewed, I suppose, because there are only a few games played.Charlie Reams wrote: That's pretty cool, maybe I'll give it a try. I'm amused that Martin Gardner is ranked #3 despite being a fluent speaker and rather an expert in French Scrabble (using the same dictionary).
If more people play, I dare say that Martin will excel.

Part of me didn't wanna post this cos it might rub it into him, but the other part of me thought, the fact that I'm posting this shows that I think he's amazing.
I beat Dinos Sfyris

Not only that but we declared the same thing in 7 rounds so I'd like to think my train of thought is one with a master's.

Re: Official Thread of Brag
Wow, that record actually is unbeatable; impressive. Mine and Ben's record is certainly beatable, but it's probably only worth breaking if someone is really going to raise the bar to a new level, and post a score of around 650. I'm actually hoping that this will become a new sport on Apterous, a subsidiary activity almost as popular as playing the normal game. It requires discipline, focus, and patience, mental endurance; a willingness to keep going, to keep pushing at the task even when it seems pointless and tedious, which it is. It also encourages mutual respect and team co-operation between opponents. I'm hoping that eventually a Usain Bolt will come along and just really decimate the previous records and bring the game into new areas which were previously unimaginable.Charlie Reams wrote:I wonder if that's more or less tragic and pointless than this. No offence to Tom (I did check before making this comment; he hasn't played since June) but I love the way you can just imagine Nude taking a big breath, sighing, and then going "fiiiiiine" before it finally decides to answer one and put him out of his misery.Ben Hunter wrote:The game that held the previous tie-break record is hilarious: http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=23318

Nice work Innis, 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the high scores. I think the new super-friendly Prune should help topple quite a few of the Goatdown records.

Not sure if I'm quite getting into the spirit of this thread, but given that my rating is a mere 852 at present, I was rather pleased with THIS GAME
as at the end of round 7 I was still in the lead. An unfortunate incorrectly declared 9 in round 8 was my undoing, but I was still rather chuffed at doing so well against one of the greats.
