Jon Nakamatsu, Jeff Tyzik and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Does that count?

Girls Aloud's The Promise lyrics sorta remind of the Blankety Blank theme tune. I love it . Katy Perry's new song is kinda catchy too

Current favourites include:
Aerosmith- 'Livin' on the Edge'
Foo Fighters- 'Everlong'
Guns n Roses- 'Shackler's Revenge'
Incidentally most of my songs are bought off of iTunes and then burnt onto CD to be ripped into windows media player, which is a non-shit media player (and also so they can be put onto my Creative Zen since Zen >>>>>>>>>>>> ipod). I've also turned off 'what I'm listening to' on msn messenger, something I recommend a good few people do.

I just hope to fuck that you aren't referring to the version done by the fat one out of Take That!
Incidentally, (worth a mention as not listed on that wikipedia article) my favourite version is a very rare treat by the little-known (I think) The Button Down Brass which you might well have trouble finding.

Although it came out last Halloween, I've only recently managed to get hold of a copy of Good Thing It's A Ghost Town Around Here by Still Flyin' - there's something vaguely uncool about it but it's still totally ace.
Also, for fans of lo-fi hip-hop, Dan Black's HYPNTZ is worth a listen. It's odd, seems to be the same as the Notorious B.I.G. version lyrically, but that's about the only similarity!
Oh, and for pop tune of the year so far, it's got to be Single Ladies by Beyonce.

As someone who grew up listening to Notorious BIG (yeah, bad childhood), that was strangely moving. It's remarkable that in this day and age we have this genre of music in which the artists can get killed for what they perform.JimBentley wrote: Also, for fans of lo-fi hip-hop, Dan Black's HYPNTZ is worth a listen. Not having to hang around with kids any more, I'm glad to say I've not even heard of nearly all of the 'songs' mentioned.
I'll go with the Ravel, in preference to the Albeniz. At the present, I've been enjoying R3 Mendelssohn Day on iPlayer (apart from people rabbitting on instead of getting on with the music. )

Just when I was thinking I couldn't possibly comment on this thread as I have never heard of (or should I say never taken an interest in) any of these songs, when I came across your message, only my choice has to be anything sung by Bruce Springsteen. My actual favourite is Dancing in the Dark, but I love most of his new stuff as well. My idea of music heaven is a Springsteen concert at the Olympic Stadium or Camp Nou on a summer's evening in Barcelona.Peter Mabey wrote:Not having to hang around with kids any more, I'm glad to say I've not even heard of nearly all of the 'songs' mentioned.

Re: Favourite song at the moment
I clicked on to the above song, and it brought home to me how the different generations grow apart. What would bring a prison sentence in one, would be quite acceptable in another. In my day, If an unwed couple lived together; they were living in sin. Before that; when Trams went on the road, ladies were not allowed on the top deck in case gentlemen glimpsed their ankles as they climbed the stairs. I can imagine the uncontrolled excitement if a bit more of the leg appeared.Jim Bentley wrote:That is excellent. It all changed when the trial of the publishers of "Lady Chatterley's lover" occurred, and they were found not guilty of publishing obscene material.
Now we can watch television cookery programmes and also listen to foul language. But if we don't like it we can always turn it off.
I think that your Generation is much better than our with attitudes etc., but I can't enjoy your music. I'll stick to stuff like "Let me call you Sweetheart" etc.

Just been watching the Elbow session with the BBC Concert Orchestra, recorded at Abbey Road a couple of weeks ago. Thoroughly recommend at least four of the tracks: The Bones of You, Mirrorball, Grounds for Divorce and One Day Like This; the latter especially builds to a stunning climax - whack the volume up as loud as you dare! Digital viewers can watch the whole thing via the red button any time up until Saturday.

Having watched the session several times over the past week, I went out and bought the album yesterday. It's the first time I've come across a CD with this certification, which I hadn't heard of until now but which strikes me as a great idea. Re: Favourite song at the moment
I meant to post stuff to this thread more regularly but sort of forgot. Anyway, here's a bunch of stuff I've been totally digging lately (daddy-o), in no particular order:
In For The Kill by La Roux is an excellent 80s electro-pop throwback, but it's the dubstep remix by Skream that's the real awesomeness. Quite scary if you listened to it in a darkened room at top volume, but then most dubstep stuff is.
Quite old now (from last summer) but still great: Esser - Headlock. There's an album somewhere, but the internets won't tell me where it is (although to be fair I haven't looked that hard).
Solo by Chew Lips reminds me of something else but I'm damned if I can think what. It's vaguely New Order-ish (bass) and it's vaguely Yeah Yeah Yeahs-ish (vocals) but it's more specifically something else. It's been driving me up the wall!
The whole album from Micachu & The Shapes is extremely excellent, and Golden Phone is quite representative, being both catchy and poppy, but also quite skronky and weird. Also featuring handclaps, which top scienticians have proved can boost a song's performance by up to 23% [citation needed].
Speaking of skronky, Wavves - So Bored is like Dinosaur Jnr, even down to the two-note guitar "solo" near the end. This is a Good Thing, of course.
I don't know much about Official Secrets Act, but I do know that this track (So Tomorrow) is their best. It's great for now, but they'll be here today, gone tomorrow, I reckon (I also thought this about the Killers when they first released "Mr Brightside", so my prediction rate isn't exactly 100%).
Finally, Barons Court Turret by Gyratory System is just demented super-lo-budget-toytown electronica, and if there's a higher recommendation than that, I don't know what it is.

Re: Favourite song at the moment
Saw Esser at Reading Festival last summer and really enjoyed him. Not the sort of thing I would usually listen to at home but fantastic for a summer vibe thang.JimBentley wrote:Quite old now (from last summer) but still great: Esser - Headlock. I also haven't found the album but I do have two other Esser tracks as well if you want them.

So much pop and rock it drives you insane...
*Brings in 90s Bristol Sound*
Show - Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man
Nicely depressing
Oh and if any of you want to feel nauseated, try a bit of "deck of cards" by Max Bygraves.

Re: Favourite song at the moment
I watched the final of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway on Saturday and Ant's team in the Team Challenge thingy, sung songs from Grease and I can't get the songs now out of my head.
