In that case, Breams' version of Albeniz's, 'Mallorca', which I am also struggling to get right on the guitar at the moment.Gary Male wrote:Jon Nakamatsu, Jeff Tyzik and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Does that count?

I've only just clicked on the link 3 minutes after you have posted it, and a message comes up saying "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by WMG."Ben Wilson wrote:probably the greatest music video of all time and a damn fine song to boot.

As someone who grew up listening to Notorious BIG (yeah, bad childhood), that was strangely moving. It's remarkable that in this day and age we have this genre of music in which the artists can get killed for what they perform.JimBentley wrote: Also, for fans of lo-fi hip-hop, Dan Black's HYPNTZ is worth a listen. It's odd, seems to be the same as the Notorious B.I.G. version lyrically, but that's about the only similarity!
That is excellent. I'm fleetingly familiar with some of the Ben Folds stuff but hadn't heard/seen that, and it is a treat. Cheers!Charlie Reams wrote:Oh, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dSJxvi767kQ is good too, although it's far too funny to be touching.
Just when I was thinking I couldn't possibly comment on this thread as I have never heard of (or should I say never taken an interest in) any of these songs, when I came across your message, only my choice has to be anything sung by Bruce Springsteen. My actual favourite is Dancing in the Dark, but I love most of his new stuff as well. My idea of music heaven is a Springsteen concert at the Olympic Stadium or Camp Nou on a summer's evening in Barcelona.Peter Mabey wrote:Not having to hang around with kids any more, I'm glad to say I've not even heard of nearly all of the 'songs' mentioned.![]()
I'll go with the Ravel, in preference to the Albeniz. At the present, I've been enjoying R3 Mendelssohn Day on iPlayer (apart from people rabbitting on instead of getting on with the music.)
I clicked on to the above song, and it brought home to me how the different generations grow apart. What would bring a prison sentence in one, would be quite acceptable in another. In my day, If an unwed couple lived together; they were living in sin. Before that; when Trams went on the road, ladies were not allowed on the top deck in case gentlemen glimpsed their ankles as they climbed the stairs. I can imagine the uncontrolled excitement if a bit more of the leg appeared.Jim Bentley wrote:That is excellent. In a similar vein, but quite a lot cleverer IMO: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kwuIIsDjgZgJimBentley wrote:That is excellent. Having watched the session several times over the past week, I went out and bought the album yesterday. It's the first time I've come across a CD with this certification, which I hadn't heard of until now but which strikes me as a great idea. Here's to more freedom of choice for recording artists who want to exhibit the full dynamic range of their music.I wrote:Just been watching the Elbow session with the BBC Concert Orchestra, recorded at Abbey Road a couple of weeks ago. Saw Esser at Reading Festival last summer and really enjoyed him. Not the sort of thing I would usually listen to at home but fantastic for a summer vibe thang.JimBentley wrote:Quite old now (from last summer) but still great: Esser - Headlock.
