Who's the worst Dictionary Corner newbie?

Post by James Robinson »

I thought I'd add an additional poll to see who you think is the worst of the new 14?

As with the other poll, it will close when Countdown returns.

Who the heck put Donal down as the worst :?:

EDIT: I can understand the reason for about 4 of the others, but DONAL :!: :?:

I make no apologies for copying this from the other thread (or for talking about my least favourite in that other thread, before this one was started):

'Even if Ian Hyland did 'leak' the 'Susie has help' story, the worst was Jon Gaunt for his "It's great because it's old / English / because I say it is" arguments. At least Anne Widdecombe seems to have thought about her views and considered both sides of the argument and the consequences of a situation.'

Jonathan Ansell came across as a massively smug wanker, so him.

You've got that right, Daniel. His stories weren't even that interesting! Good lord!

P.S. Daniel, your website dedicated to Rachel is like her, just lovely :!: ;) :) :D

Not only was/is John Gaunt a dreadful person, Jeff's sycophantic chummying up to him was equally appalling. If he's invited back to DC I WILL turn off in protest.

You're right there, having said that, how many journalists have actually been good DC guests :?: (That's people who by trade are journalists, rather than people who right columns, etc.)

A bit of word play I hope, rather than a typo - columns a little right of Enoch Powell :?:

I personally think that Johnnie Casson was the worst of all time.

Since you started the sentence with "I" doesn't the "personally" bit seem extraneous? And if I am right about that then trust me I am right about Mel.

I actually never saw Mel in DC, so "I" can't verify your claim, David.

I chose the one who I can't even remember seeing. If he didn't make any impression on me I guess I didn't like him much.

But then I realised I haven't seen any of the last two weeks' programmes yet. So my apologies to Ian Hyland for voting for him before I've given him a chance.

Of the remaining 13, I'd have gone for Jonathan Ansell.

I put Ian Hyland, because he used a lot of the time in DC as an opportunity to bitch abotu celebrities he obviously does get on with.

I dotn know who Jonathan Ansell is though.

edit: If i knew it was G4 man, i probably would have gone for him, oh well

Just a quick "heads up" for all you Jonathan Ansell fans - there is a whole CD available of him now in Poundland - called "Tenor at the Movies", they're struggling to sell it for one tenth of that.

Ah well, at least he's as popular as he thinks he is :D

Well, with just a week till the long awaited return of the show, it seems that Jonathan Ansell, Ian Hyland and Jon Gaunt are the biggest hate figures amongst the group.

I personally think that Donal wasn't that bad and the 2 people who voted for him should be ashamed of themselves.

And whoever voted for Matt Le Tissier as the worst deserves to be shot, quite frankly!

Hopefully, there'll be a few more people come to vote, but I'll probably be lucky to pass the 50 votes mark.

Still, not long to go before Jeff, Rachel & Susie return to our screens. ;) :) :D

Who voted for Steve Davis? The man's a god! He's drier than dry, ginger, and a living legend to boot (I liiiiiiiiiiiiiiike snooker ;)).

Worst ever DC guest has got to go to Tony Christie - he'd obviously never seen the show, had nothing interesting to say at all (even when under Des's professional interrogation), and didn't even seem to have an personal qualities to recommend him.

I'm sure he's a lovely chap really, but he's not top of my invitations list

Hooray, 50 has been reached with around a few days to go! Having said that, it means that there has been an average of just TWO votes a day since I started this poll, which is pretty rubbish it has to be said.

P.S. If it seems like I'm repeating myself, between the good and bad forums, then you'd be right.

Well, Countdown has returned, which means the voting is over.

And so:

The least popular Countdown newbie is... Jonathan Ansell with 38% of the vote.

Joint 2nd: Jon Gaunt & Ian Hyland with 21% each.
4th (and why I'm not quite sure): Kate Humble with 5%
5th (don't know how again): Donal MacIntyre with 3%
Joint 6th: Tim "The C4Countdowners' Favourite" Vine, Martin Lewis, Steve Davis, John Stapleton & Matt Le Tissier (although I bet the person who voted for him is a Portsmouth fan) with 1%.
All the rest: 0%

Thanks again to everyone who voted and commented on this poll. ;) :) :D

P.S. Message to those who voted for Kate Humble. She's back on in 2 weeks, so she can't have been that bad, could she :?:

Hmmm. I know Jonathan Ansell is just a pretty boy singer with not a great deal about him, but at least he's not a nasty piece of work like John Gaunt is.

I wish I'd voted for Kate Humble now instead of Jonathan Ansell. She is extremely tiresome, and although Ansell was a bigheaded cock, at least he tried to talk about something instead of just reading, and talking down to the viewer in her haughty manner.
