Countdown Temporarily Changes Music

Post by Philip A »

For 5 episodes from 29th April to 3rd May, Countdown will temporarily use a piano arrangement in place of the iconic theme tune to promote the second series of Claudia Winkleman’s hit talent show The Piano, which began on 28th April. Watch to see what I mean. A few other Channel 4 shows, including Gogglebox, will also use a temporary piano arrangement.

Interesting.. look forward to hearing it. I've never heard a good piano arrangement of it yet. It's too percussive and synthy.

This should be a regular thing.
Looking forward to reggae , country and drum and base versions.
I'm sure a geek with AI knowledge could give us a preview :D

Sounds like a late April Fools' joke.

As I expected, just the intro and not the clock music that has the piano arrangement (which sounds pretty nice).

Yeah it's decent.
I wonder if it's physically possible on one piano. I don't have a good enough ear to tell but it sounds like it might be 2 pianos. Or could all be computer-played.
Also in general I think it sounds really thin/tinny. Maybe I'm too used to the old one.

Anyway I thought I wasn't going to like it and it's decent and a nice change.

Hmm, so that's why it was. It went totally without comment in the show. How was it supposed to promote it?? I was just baffled and I'm a big fan of The Piano!!

It wouldn’t have been with comment on the show presumably because the shows were recorded before the piano arrangement was known.

The point of TV crossovers is to get people to notice another show. That’s showbiz for you.

If you rewatch the intros of those five episodes carefully, you can hear the applause at the start doesn't blend in nicely with the piano arrangement with it being faded in and I'm sure Colin would have waited for the entire music to end before starting if it was planned (he starts just as the last note is played, but it continued to reverberate for at least one or two more seconds thereafter)
