Spoilers for Thursday 5th November 2020 (Series 82, Prelim 151)
Always nice to see a former S64 player doing well the second time round.
Rebecca would have been my fifth opponent if I had lasted that long.
Beaters today CONCHIES in R2 and MODERATE in R4.
And ARSENIC is not a compound!

Well I don't know how far in advance the conundrums are chosen, but BRIGANDRY was a toughie, especially against two new contestants!

You know it's tricky when they have to go to Susie for a definition!Peter Thomas wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:13 pm Well I don't know how far in advance the conundrums are chosen, but BRIGANDRY was a toughie, especially against two new contestants!

At my school assemblies there was always a row of FAINTERS sitting on chairs in the corridor as we left the hall.
I thought I was good at Countdown until I joined this forum

It is better that there is an element of randomness to the Con difficulty (except for in the finals when they are harder by design).Peter Thomas wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:13 pm Well I don't know how far in advance the conundrums are chosen, but BRIGANDRY was a toughie, especially against two new contestants!
It is possible to over-egg the pudding, and micromanaging everything to the nth degree is not the best route to go down.

Agreed with both. Although I suppose they had to use CREEPYHAT on that day because Halloween (eve).Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 10:18 amI thought ARCHETYPE the other day was pretty tricky as well!Peter Thomas wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:13 pm Well I don't know how far in advance the conundrums are chosen, but BRIGANDRY was a toughie, especially against two new contestants!

ARCHETYPE had been used as a conundrum twice before and on both occasions it had been spotted.
