Spoilers For Wednesday January 20th 2010
Well, following last night's debacle in the Huddersfield Town v. Bristol Rovers match, I'm just hoping that today's match involving Oliver Garner is not only fantastic, but breathtaking. Obviously, I'd be hoping both, since I'm recapping later.
Of course, if Oliver wins today, he'll be aiming to be the first octochamp of the series, and of course, I'd be recapping that too. That would mean, I'll have recapped half of Oliver's shows.
But, we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, for all we know his challenger today could be another octochamp-in-the-making....

2nd numbers, 1 away.
25 x 8 = 200, -10 = 190
190 x 4 = 760, + (8 / 2) = 764
possible?

I used the same method, it's actually possible - spend a few hours and you'll eventually get it.Matt Morrison wrote:2nd numbers, 1 away.

You're seethrough DoD. If you hadn't said "spend a few hours" I might have believed you, but I don't even need to check now to know it's impossibleDavid O'Donnell wrote:I used the same method, it's actually possible - spend a few hours and you'll eventually get it.Matt Morrison wrote:2nd numbers, 1 away.

Yeah, deliberately made it contrived so you'd know I was messing with you.Matt Morrison wrote:You're seethrough DoD. I've replayed it a few times and I thought Daphne said TOASTED for round 12 which would have been invalid as there was only one T.

That's what she said!!!!
Re: Spoilers For Wednesday January 20th 2010
Am sure she said 'COASTED' but her speech wasn't very clear. It was a bit toothy, with all respect of course.Charlie Reams wrote:That's what she said!!!!
I think Oliver thought so too, because he offered 'COASTED' also then showed Daphne his paper, as if they both had the same word.

Glad you stopped short of making any predictions James after yesterday's disasterous effort!
Well done again Ollie, I'm sure you'v ealready done enough to be back for the finals but hopefully you can win tomorrow, become a member of the '800 club' and secure yourself a high seed for the afore mentioned finals.

I'm fairly sure she said TOASTED, so am in a slight pickle with my recap at the moment.james doohan wrote:That's what I thought she said tooRich Priest wrote:I've replayed it a few times and I thought Daphne said TOASTED for round 12 which would have been invalid as there was only one T.
THRIVED in round 13.
1st Numbers Alternative:
7 + 6 = 13, 13 x 9 = 117, 117 + 75 = 192
2nd Numbers (1 Away):
4 x 8 x 25 = 800, 10 + 8 = 18, 18 x 2 = 36, 800 - 36 = 764

Yeah I thought she said TOASTED (had to rewind and lip read to confirm) too. You could tell Oli wasn't sure as he was like "err...yeah COASTED too" in a "she can't have said TOASTED...she must have said COASTED" kind of way.Charlie Reams wrote:That's what she said!!!!

Yup. I heard it, too. Dock her seven points - especially as she made the worst attempt at a joke I have seen on Countdown since the RW days. She gets TENSIONS then breaks Jeff's flow to interject "I'll stand to attention." WTF? Come back, Derek, all is forgiven.Charlie Reams wrote:That's what she said!!!!

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday January 20th 2010
REALTOR, eh.
It appears to be a valid word, listed in the Compact OED as "N. Amer." for an estate agent ... with a lowercase "r."
Thing is, though, Realtor is a registered trademark in the U.S. for, specifically, a real estate agent who is a member of the National Association of Realtors. They are quite persnickety about protecting their trademark, too.
I was surprised that the North American status is acknowledged but the trademark is not.

As I heard it there's no doubt at all that Daphne said TOASTED. Like others, I've just replayed it, and every time I hear it, it's TOASTED. However, when putting subtitles on it's given as COASTED.
However, it's late on in the game, and doesn't affect the outcome.

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday January 20th 2010
They do explain in the intro that the decision to spell a word in lower case is not meant as a comment on its trademark status (although it blatantly is). In any case trademarks are only national, so I think OUP are pretty safe.Chris Thomas wrote:REALTOR, eh.

Haha, possibly a first Alec but IAWTP Also her example of "spontaneous wit" was coming back "a few minutes later" with "sod-in-law" as a riposte to "monster-in-law". I a-lolled, comedy gold. And they say women aren't funny?Alec Rivers wrote:Yup. I heard it, too. Dock her seven points - especially as she made the worst attempt at a joke I have seen on Countdown since the RW days.
