Spoilers for 1st December 2009
Not only did I get in before James Robinson (the reason why anyone starts spoiler threads these days), I got the first spoiler thread of the month, something I know that James Robinson really wanted, but now can't have.

Technically, winter begins on the 21st December.
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Whilst admittedly the first few times the 'lets start the spoilers thread early to piss James off' joke was quite funny (whether or not it actually did piss him off); it's now getting quite boring and predictable.
For the record I actually like it when James starts them off, it's quite useful to be reminded what day of the week it is, how yesterday's show went (particularly if I havn't watched it and can't be bothered with 4OD). It's also interesting to know how many points player X needs to overtake player Y on the leaderboard and if an apteroid/forumite is the days challenger which makes it more watchable for me and I'm sure others.

This year, it certainly is the Solstice on the 21st, but whether one calls that the start of winter is another matter.Matthew Green wrote:Technically, winter begins on the 21st December.
The June Solstice is also known as mid-summer's day (in the northern hemisphere) and so I guess December Solstice is mid-winter.
Of course in places south of the Equator it will be mid-summer.
Now my head aches.

For Niall, here's my stats for today.Niall Seymour wrote:Whilst admittedly the first few times the 'lets start the spoilers thread early to piss James off' joke was quite funny (whether or not it actually did piss him off); it's now getting quite boring and predictable.

Following Graham's loss yesterday, Tom is now our last chance of having 8 octochamps in the finals, because if he loses, there is no chance of that happening.
Of course, if Tom does lose today, that will mean that 3 of the 4 quarter-finals would be sorted out, since none of the top 7 will move places in the table.
If that were to happen that would mean the finals would look like this:
QF's:
10/12 - Andrew Hulme v ?
11/12 - Chris Davies v Steve Wood
14/12 - Innis Carson v Jeff Burgin
15/12 - Ryan Taylor v Brian Selway
SF's:
16/12 - Winner Of QF1 v Winner Of QF4
17/12 - Winner Of QF2 v Winner Of QF3
Final:
18/12 - Winner Of SF1 v Winner Of SF2
But, I'm pretty sure that most of you knew that already.

Re: Spoilers for 1st December 2009
Since 24th June is Midsummer's day, that must make 24th December Midwinter's day. So if winter starts on 21st December, as suggested in an earlier post in this thread, we clearly have very short winters.
Re: Spoilers for 1st December 2009
It started this morning, minus 2 when i got in my car and windscreen / doors frozen shut.

Another solution for 3nd numbers
75X7=525 - (10x9) = 435 + 10 -8

The fact you put the word in small letters told me you cheated...otherwise you'd have been so proud to have spotted it that you'd have left it regular size. If someone did spot it and was awesomely happy, I can imagine how pissed off they'd be when they come here to brag about it and see you've already posted it due to using a solver.Marc Meakin wrote: I might have done as it could have come at at a recent game on Apterous

I finally found something to like about you and it turns out you were just typing it into a solver . I'm not completely sure I know the point of posting DC beaters here, but it is fun to share your findings and I do it occasionally. On the other hand posting something from a solver is completely pointless because they'll be in the recap anyway.Marc Meakin wrote: I might have done as it could have come at at a recent game on Apterous

Yes it is annoying to find he was using a solver. He's beaten me to the punch a few times and if I'd known then he was using a solver I'd have been really pissed off. Got ABHORS in R4 as an equaller, I think. Reminded me of the impenetrable seasonal line:
"Lo, He abhors not the virgin's womb."
Hmm, maybe 'impenetrable' is not quite the right word here.

I need to clear this up once and for all, I used Lexplorer as I did not think that there could have been an 8 with that selection. When I play on Apterous I NEVER use a solver (hence my modest rating) I sometimes use Lexplorer when countdown is on for my own amusement after the round has finished I do not post my findings, although on occasions I have posted that there is a nine in the selection but not revealed it.Liam Tiernan wrote:Yes it is annoying to find he was using a solver. Re: Spoilers for 1st December 2009
Did anyone else here have to watch today's show with the edges of the picture missing, or was it just a regional thing? Damn difficult to do the conundrum as quickly as the contestant, and it made Rachel look a bit wide (until I forced my TV into 4/3 mode). Hope it's better for tomorrow!
