Re: Official Series 61 Finals Spoilers
Recalling that a forum members group was set up for all those of us who'd been present at the Series 60 finals (so that we could access a private topic prior to transmission to talk about what went on), it occurred to me that the same had probably been done for the Series 61 finals and nosily wondered who was in it. Looking at the group listings under the membership search, I see that there is indeed a group called "The61ers" - but the membership list looks a bit restricted:
So, besides missing loads of forumers who were in the audience (like Sue, Dez, Andy, Dinos, Rich etc), there are even a couple of notable absentee finalists (Ryan and Jeffrey). What's that all about then?Charlie Reams

Ooh-err. I've been added to the group for some reason, despite not being at the finals. I may be able to resist looking at the topics in the "hidden" forum. Or I may hold out for an hour or so before reading them all and then posting what I think are innocuous comments that actually contain idiotic spoilers. You know what I'm like. Anyway, you may want to take my name off the list. Or not.Charlie Reams wrote:Done.

Thanks, Charlie. You may also want to consider adding: Rich Priest, Lesley Hines and the Hurst brothers. Hopefully that's everyone.Charlie Reams wrote:Done.
EDIT: having read the posts therein, probably add "number nine seed" (almost posted a spoiler there!) and remove Lesley, as she was only there for the QFs.

These are in fact ritual marks made to protect the building and ward off evil spirits. They typically occur at building openings: doorways, windows, chimney breasts, and particularly where a wall has been broken through.
The sorts of symbols used have remained the same for centuries. Most common are conjoined V’s (which evoke the protection of the Virgin of Virgins), arrows, houses with a cross on top, circles, daisy wheels and simple heads."

Re: Official Series 61 Finals Spoilers
One of my favourite moments of the finals was when Dave Beasant was in dictionary corner, and Jeff asked him to play a game. "I'll start saying popular western holiday festivals and you have to complete the name," Jeff said, grinning.
He started by saying, "Eas-", looking at Dave expectantly, who paused a few moments. "Easter", Dave replied.
"Very good. Now, "Hallo-"." He tilted his head, cocking an ear in Dave Beasant's direction. Dave replied quickly, "Halloween, Jeff".
"Fantastic. One more then..
"Chris-..." Dave? ... He's *pause, as Dave seems to suddenly have disappeared* ... gone."

What? It was a genuinely funny moment in the show. The expression on Jeff's face when he realised he had been talking to an empty seat was priceless - Susie could barely contain her excited grin. It turned out Dave Beasant was under the table making origami shapes out of one of the contestant's papers - classic schoolboy antics. Kirk Bevins and his mates were laughing so hard in the back row of the audience because they thought Dave couldn't work out the answer to the question ('Christmas').

I liked the bit where the conundrum was INDUCTION but no-one buzzed so it went to the audience. Kirk put his hand up but couldn't get it even when someone sitting next to him told him the answer. Jeff then asked "What's INDUCTION?" Susie decided to answer using an illustration and drew Hume.
