Right, it's another day of Countdown.

Challenger: Steve Wood

Martin Lewis continues his 2nd DC stint.

Let the chat commence.

Does he come on the forum much?
Does he play on Apterous much?
Just about the only thing I knew about him was that he had signed up for COLEI!

Good to see Dinos trying to sneak his way into the challenger's chair again.

Alternative number

100 - 10 - 9 = 81
5 x 2 = 10
10 x 81 = 810 + 3 = 813

Ah wicked - yeah SUESANDER. I was screaming for a final T for SEDERUNTS and he chose a vowel. Next consonant out was T too.

I must have misread round 13 as I 'got' OPTIONED in a couple of seconds then looked away. Oops.

I was willing a final T to come out in round 12 for pentangle, but he picked a vowel.. next consonant would have been a T as well :/

I didn't! Well spotted. I like it if ever I key in the word 'QUEEN' on pred text, that appropriately enough it goes 'SUE/RUDE/QUEEN'

There was a deceptively simple answer to the second numbers:

(75 + 8*6)*7 + 7

A few seconds late, sadly.

Yeah - that's what I spent the commercial break doing, then Rachel spoiled it by doing a 'solve'.

Round 2 - SLEIGH (no SLEIGHER unfortunately!)
Round 3 - ADOPTS & PASTOR
Round 6 - PERTAINS
Round 7 - UNDERSEA (not round 6, as Sue said)
Round 8 - OBLATES
Round 12 - ANGEL & PLANE, but there are probably millions of 5's!

Alternative to 3rd numbers:

25 - 1 = 24

24 x 9 = 216

What I meant was that because it only uses 5 numbers, it looks quite easy once written down.

Did I mean "deceptively difficult"?

Yeah - that's what I spent the commercial break doing, then Rachel spoiled it by doing a 'solve'.
I just wondered if when Rachel said before the break that she'd used the 7 twice, had she forgotten that there were 2 7's,
and actually had got the right solution all along?

I think, if I remember correctly, she wrote it out, but she then found out that she used the 7 three times, so a replacement sheet was brought on so they could do the shot again, with the slight error about the 7's.

Lol, I dunno mate. I'd give yourself a bit more credit for getting it than dismissing it as 'simple' though!

SEPTARIAN?
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

For the first time ever my solution to the second numbers hasn't already been posted!

(75+25*(8-6))*7 - 7 = 868
