Re: Aptobash II: Live News
If people want to finish this off any time, the outstanding games from Round 7 were
CF vs Sid
Lee Simmonds vs Dinos/Stitcher (whichever)
If those get played then I can do the draw for Round 8 and we can polish it all off

CF and I finished our game. He was leading by around 31-20 and then I started getting the white screens of death. Apterous went down and we lost the game, which we resumed from round 6 here.Charlie Reams wrote:If people want to finish this off any time, the outstanding games from Round 7 were

Re: Aptobash II: Live News
It is a bit mean that Junaid and Kirk have to play each other for a third time - probably a consequence of too many rounds. I think in future I'll do roughly (number of players)/3 rounds. Still early days for Aptobash, and I'm trying to learn from the mistakes each time.

Yeah fair enough, to be the best you gotta beat the best.
Is it still the case that the overall top 2 will contest a best of 3 final? Or will the title go to the overall leader after round 8? Please say the latter!

Re: Aptobash II: Live News
It's the former. But it's quite unlikely to be a Bevins/Mubeen final, so we're spared that particular farce.Junaid Mubeen wrote:Yeah fair enough, to be the best you gotta beat the best.

Indeed, but if I do somehow beat Kirk again then my reward is...a best of 3 against Kirk. Lovely! Anyway, thanks for sorting it all out, I'm glad the tournament will be properly completed.Charlie Reams wrote:It's the former. Surely if you beat the best, that makes you better than the best? As the late Roy Castle would have it, if you wanna be the best, if you wanna beat the rest, dedication's what you need. (Or was it medication? Whatever.)Junaid Mubeen wrote:Yeah fair enough, to be the best you gotta beat the best.

Just to clarify, I don't have to do anything here, right? All I knew was that I took over from someone, and got told to play Jono and Junaid, but am totally confused as to what actually happened.

Re: Aptobash II: Live News
Right. Some people were drafted in and out but, for the purposes of simplicity, I'm taking the current draw as fixed. I realise it makes a bit of a mess of some people's scores but I did what I had to do under the circumstances.Paul Howe wrote:Just to clarify, I don't have to do anything here, right? Me 80-74 Stitcher
Stitcher claims a moral victory as he only just missed out typing in VERONICA but bollocks to him.

Quality game, shame it came too late for the best of the bash poll. Should be featuring next week though.

Re: Aptobash II: Live News
Just waiting for Jono vs Tom Rowell and Jeremy Miles vs Jack Hurst. However the top 2 is now settled, so I'm proud to announce the...
Aptobash II Grand Final: Kirk Bevins vs Dinos Sfyris
Kirk has 7 wins and +272 spread to Dinos' 6 wins and +247, but these are by far the highest spreads of anyone in the tournament so it should be a cracking best-of-3 final. Congrats also to Junaid and Ben who made it to 6 wins and were only denied a place in the final on spread.
Would be most grateful if the two of you could arrange a date and let us know.

Sure if I'm not working. I'll probably find out my shifts tomorrow for the cinema week which commences on Friday. Do you want to get it all over and done with in one night, or shall I win my first game one night, then leave the crowd wanting more?

My daughter works in a cinema too, and has a similar shift arrangement.Dinos Sfyris wrote:Sure if I'm not working. How do you manage to organise a social life when you can't plan a day off more than a week in advance unless you take a leave day?
Blooming awful system if you ask me. Claire likes working there though, and we get free tickets and 40% off popcorn etc.
Dinos and I are PMing, in case anyone thought he'd ignored my thread drift!

Re: Aptobash II: Live News
For those who missed it here is the Aptobash II grand final best of 3. Man of the moment Kirk Bevins takes on my humble self. Highlight below each game for commentary.
Game 1
An epic fail from me here. 4 disallowed words! I got to put a couple of 8s and a conundrum past Kirk but it seems there can be only one winner in this... (I'm implying Kirk. This is an example of building suspense)
Game 2
I definitely got lucky here. Kirk's spanged (wtf?) seemed to put me back on the track. I was disappointed by unrealist not being there but then perked up with GUARANA (advert for Boost definitely in there) Couldn't shake Kirk off for the rest of the game but luckily the crucial went in my favour
Game 3
Kirk didnt risk POURERS and straight after wished he had! However with HORTENSIA, SEICENTO, UNITARDS and the conundrum straight after it was clear it hadn't knocked his form. 19 down Luckily I managed INFIDEL and the 2nd conundrum to pull me back within striking distance. Uh-oh DEISTIC extends Kirk's lead to 9. I can't let anything else past me now. 3 easy 8s follow which we both get. 86-95. This is it. A crucial deciding conundrum. We both instantly recognise KIRKMANGE = KINGMAKER. Kirk buzzes!... with the wrong letter, leaving me to steal the conundrum and the title by a single point! Needless to say Kirk was gutted, but hey he's on telly again tomorrow, and bound to be fully awesome. And I am supreme winner of this tinpot competition! Bow down before me!
