Re: Recap for second QF of series 40 - 18/06/99
It's really very interesting to see all these old games- thanks Rich.
FWIW, the max is at least 2 higher since I can get 1 away in round 4: (3*4-10)*(50+1)*8=816; though I imagine it is possible to be exact.
Regarding the comment that the conundrum ended -ING: when did that stop happening in finals? And was it simply to prevent it being a test of reactions? (which is obviously a good thing at such an important stage of the competition). Does that mean standards now are higher in the finals, or is that not really the case?

Jesus, a 9-rounder with a max of 104!
16/10/2007 - Episode 4460
Dinos Sfyris 76 - 78 Dorian Lidell
Proof that even idiots can get well and truly mainwheeled.

COD9-friendly
Yes, stunning rounds - not hard to imagine if some of the legends had been playing, instead of the merely extremely good.

Pretty amazing, especially when you think we had a 15-rounder with a max of 105.

No probs, glad to be of assistance. There are quite a few more where these came from, a lot of them prelims, but I get the impression that the finals attract more interest. Unless anyone wants to see the prelims as well?Dinos Sfyris wrote:Agreed thanks for these RichNeil Zussman wrote:It's really very interesting to see all these old games- thanks Rich.

Absolutely Rich, they're all great. You never know, there might be a hidden gem of a perfect game lurking in the prelims. Keep up the good work.

Re: Recap for second QF of series 40 - 18/06/99
One of the first games I ever saw. I remember wondering about REPASTING, which could either be having a meal or what you do to dried out wallpaper, and then Mark Nyman (I think) coming up with the slightly bizarre TRAPESING.
It sticks in my mind because twelve months later I was on, the same letters came up, I confidently offered TRAPESING, RW asked me to spell it, and Susie said "No" before even looking it up! She then changed mid-sentence to "Fantastic", the first half of what she said was cut, and my opponent went from thinking +8 to -18 in the blink of an eye.

Presumably because the usual spelling is TRAIPSING, but TRAPESING is a rare but apparently acceptable variant.David Williams wrote:I confidently offered TRAPESING, RW asked me to spell it, and Susie said "No" before even looking it up! She then changed mid-sentence to "Fantastic"
