C4C downtime

Post by Gevin Chapwell »

Over the last few days the forum was down for a long time. It briefly came back up a few days ago within the main down period. Is the reason known?

I’ve noticed too. The Wiki was down briefly but seems fine now. Can’t say why though.

It's very clunky and slow now. Whatever the cause, I don't think it's gone away.

I keep getting that thing with too many users online which was a thing exactly a year ago.

It is running slowly when you are saving your work, and you get general error when you try edit your page.

What exactly do people do on this site ? Forums always seem dead .. like a ghost town.

Are you all ghosts ?

It's still slow and clunky now. The problem definitely has not passed.

Having vanished completely for a few days it's back with "just" 42 users online and seems to load quickly. Wiki is up (it did go down).

That was a max users exceeded error too, perhaps some kind of bot attack on both sites?

Having been a regular poster on that forum for 20 years, that's the first time I can remember any forum meltdown for that reason. Did Norris criticise Max or something?

Just 38 online now. Could we finally be seeing our way out of this? I might even update the CO-event parkrun table with the Sheffield results this weekend if it's working properly.

It has been a lot better for a while now. About 60 online now - still weirdly high, but nothing to break the forum.

Similar problems at the moment. Coincidentally, I just came across someone who's trying to solve this problem by loading unwanted crawlers with vast amounts of data to in theory break them.

Interesting. The problem needs to be looked at though. It's been going on for a while. I'll see if the bat signal works:

The bat signal is usually meant to summon Batman, not piss him off, but it's worth a try.

Not sure why you think it would piss him off. But anyway I also sent him an Aptomail, and there's still an open ticket on Apterous.

It's terrible at the moment. It's had its ups and downs but it's never been good for a prolonged time since the start of this thread. It would be a shame for the forum to die of neglect.

CDB is very clunky too, one possibility that Charlie could be updating it
