Jersey is one of the Channel Islands, between England and France, Jason. Never been there myself, but it's really scenic and has a mild climate.Jason Larsen wrote:Hi, Simon!

I'll just call it Old Jersey as a joke!
I do have a sense of humor, you know.
But, if Simon came to the US a native of the East Coast would say, "I don't detect your accent!"

I've just noticed that our newest member is Mrs Kai. If this means that you are Kai Laddiman's mum, or even if it doesn't, welcome to the forum!
I have a wonderful 12 year old son (youngest of 5 children), who's lovely and bright as a button, although not quite as accomplished as yours.

I notice that as of yesterday we have a member by the name of Susie Dent. Assuming you're the Susie Dent, a very warm welcome. (In fact, welcome even if you're just any old Susie Dent.)
Re: Welcome! - Post here first
Wow! Distinguished company indeed!
Welcome Susie Dent, lexicographer extraordinaire, and welcome again to Kai's mum, now I know it's you!
Welcome also to Rob Francis, presumably a mere mortal like myself.

Haha, Susie told me that she had looked on here the other day and saw one of my posts which was something like "disgusting" or "obscene". What are the chances that she should stumble across that one post eh?

Hi i'm Eoin Monaghan and thanks to 'ralph' have this opportunity to introduce myself. I joined the forum 10th DecCharlie Reams wrote:Hello and welcome to the new C4Countdown forum! It's been a long time coming but we hope you'll agree that it's worth the wait.
Perhaps a predictable-but-useful way to open the new forum would be to invite everyone to sign up (real names please!), say "Hi", and let us know who you are. I'm Charlie Reams (lots of you will know me as Soo) and I'm a final year undergraduate at Cambridge University. I've been watching Countdown for about 5 years and will be applying... some time. I run The Countdown Corral and I also set-up the Countdown Wiki. My favourite colour is horse.

Hi, long-time viewer (since sometime in my student years so must be about '91), lurker for a few months, new poster. I've never been on the show, but maybe with a lot more practice I'll get good enough. Mind you, if I'm still rubbish after all these years, it's unlikely I'm ever going to be teapot-worthy.

I don't know. If you embark on a proper training regime and stick at it, I think most people can reach a reasonable standard.Pete Fraser wrote:Hi, long-time viewer (since sometime in my student years so must be about '91), lurker for a few months, new poster. Oh man, that sounds far too much like hard work. The standard nowadays is so high, it feels like you need to memorize OSW just to compete. At least I'm good at the numbers, though.

It really isn't that high. If you watch the heats it's quite mediocre. Yes, the finalists might be better than before (notice the big "might" - Paul Gallen/Mark Tournoff were obviously quality) but as Whiters always said "it's a young man's game" and a lot of young men are doing lots of practice and thanks to the internet are coming out with some wonderful words. If it's a teapot you're after, you might have a good chance of winning one.Pete Fraser wrote:The standard nowadays is so high, it feels like you need to memorize OSW just to compete.

Hello to everyone
My name is Gary Woodward and I'm a Countdownaholic.
I was on the show in 1999, and won six games; I was a semi-finalist and lost to Simon Cooper, who would have won had it not been for those Pesky Scott Mearns!
I've been missing from the Countdown Community for a while but am thrilled to have found this site!

Hello everyone,
My name is Jeannine and I live in Jersey, Channel Islands, where I work as a teaching assistant at a secondary school on the island. Only a few more days until the holidays!
I'm a Countdown fan, and usually record it to watch later with my parents. I'm afraid I would be totally hopeless as a contestant, and as for the numbers...well...Maths was never my strong point at school. I can only get the numbers if they're really easy. I am really sorry that Carol and Des have left. To lose another presenter is bad enough but losing Carol is the end of an era. Very sad. Still, we must give the new presenters a chance. It will be interesting to see what everyone thinks of the new Countdown.
Look forward to joining in the forum.
Cheers.

Hi everyone, my name is Ross MacMillan and I'm from the Highlands of Scotland. I watch Countdown almost every day and I like to play along at home with a scorecard.
