The woman who said TRUNCHEON had the most incredible hair I've ever seen. Took me a full minute to stop laughing. OK I'll get me coat...

I actually wondered if Des had made a terrible faux pas when the camera cut to her, as the thought "fucking hell, it could be a man" flickered across my mind. She reminded me of Charlie Chuck, I think.Stewart Holden wrote:The woman who said TRUNCHEON had the most incredible hair I've ever seen. Took me a full minute to stop laughing. OK I'll get me coat...

Follies was not allowed and yet it is in 2 of my Oxford English dictionaries including the full of The Oxford English Dictionary which definitive.

FOLLIES is allowed in Countdown, but John declared VOLLIES. There was no 'F' in the selection.Keith Hazell wrote:Follies was not allowed and yet it is in 2 of my Oxford English dictionaries including the full of The Oxford English Dictionary which definitive.

Yes it was !vollies! There wasn,t an F in the selection.Innis Carson wrote:I think that was "vollies" they disallowed.
I interpreted Des,s remarks to the champion after the game as "why don,t you cheer up you miserable so and so".

I'm surprised that the challenger, Lee, an actuary, didn't try something other than "1 big, 5 small" in his numbers games. He needed to get an advantage in those, and John Matthews has had an easy ride in his last 7 numbers games, having failed on his first two.

The last two numbers were quite simple today, but it was a close called game so maybe Lee might've just played it safe, by picking 1 large.David Gunn wrote:I'm surprised that the challenger, Lee, an actuary, didn't try something other than "1 big, 5 small" in his numbers games. Re: Spoilers for Friday, 21st November
Lee Hesketh went to my primary and secondary school! As soon as I saw him I recognised him (he hasn't changed despite developing a scar on his head) and the name confirmed it. I'm glad Des mentioned about John's smiling because I noticed Lee seemed to be enjoying it but John really didn't. No smiles, even at the end when he'd won or when Des commented on it. I also love the fact how he said he was feeling confident yet looks slightly nervous and nearly ended up losing. Maybe he has to rethink his ways....

Yeah I noticed that contradiction too, heh. Even Charlie when asked "did you expect to win?" says "oh gosh, no, this is amazing."Kirk Bevins wrote:I also love the fact how he said he was feeling confident yet looks slightly nervous and nearly ended up losing. Maybe he has to rethink his ways....
Also he often doesn't look at Des (or anyone) when speaking, which is a bit rude. I wanted him to lose today

Re: Spoilers for Friday, 21st November
I joined this site a little earlier simply because I wanted to see if anyone else had seen John misdeclare the length of his word in round 2. He said he had a six-letter word and then said 'loner' which Des spelt out but no one in the studio batted an eyelid.
So all the way through the game I was grumbling that John should have six points less than his score was actually saying and was sure he was keeping his head down as he knew he'd misdeclared and was hoping to get away with it.
Anyhoo, after registering on this site and then wandering off while my account was being activated, I now understand that his word was 'loaner' which is indeed six letters.

Quite liked DODGEMS in R13. Not as good as DC, but beat both contestants.
