What word am I looking for?

Post by Philip Wilson »

Hi, this isn't a quiz - I really can't think of a word I need to use, and hopefully someone here can!
I'm looking for the word which would describe the qualities of a tribute, eg a TV episode to a deceased actor. I'm trying to describe a particular episode [of Columbo, as it happens] which is a very good tribute to Peter Falk, and want to say that it has very good ************ qualities. I guess it might end in 'istic' maybe. Is there actually a word????
Thanks for any assistance.

I'm looking for a classic Jason Larsen quote that would fit here but I can't think of it. I guess it might end in "our kidding Matt!" Is there actually a quote?

In all seriousness though, not too sure. Tributary can be used as an adjective to describe something that pays tribute (not just the rivery definition) so maybe that works.

Typical media descriptors like "homage" and "pastiche" either don't quite fit what you are saying and/or don't fit your sentence.

I guess you could say it has qualities that are appreciative / gratitudinal / eulogistic / commendatory...

Yeah perhaps eulogistic best fits, especially as you get your "istic" in :)

Cool word, but talk about complicating the matter! Basically just means "being eulogistic" :)

I did wonder if Matt's 'tributistic' was real or a wind-up, honest I did, but then it sounds right!
Tributary crossed my mind yesterday but it sounds too much like rivers, even if it has other meanings.
So I think eulogistic is probably closest to what I'm trying to say, according to https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/eulogistic and yep, the ...istic is there too!
Thanks for all the ideas ;)
