Spoilers for Wednesday April 3rd 2013 (Series 68 Prelim 19)
In what ends up being the last prelim of the week today, Jean Wright enters as the champ with a strong performance against our own Peter Fenton. Can she keep things up with another win? It's going to be quite tricky for her, because as soon as she defeats one aptoforumite yesterday, she has to face another one today. Specifically, Giles Hutchings. He has been involved on apterous for quite some time, and we'll see if he can do better on the show than his mother, series 51 quarterfinalist Nicole Hutchings. Neither is going to be an easy opponent for the other, and we'll see what happens.
Join James for the recap later. I think.

Fantastic debut, Giles! On this form you'll be a serious contender to win the series and I wouldn't be surprised to see you break the octochamp total record.
I make 129 the highest score for a full debutant ever. Hamish Williamson and Andrew Hulme both scored higher as challengers but both had appeared on the show before.
Looking forward to seven more shows of the same.

Every bit as good as I expected, Giles. Great show. 129 sets a good benchmark for top score in the new format - assuming you don't annihilate it next week!

Best debut ever?
Possibly the first contestant to accelerate with a mic clipped...
Re: Spoilers for Wednesday April 3rd 2013 (Series 68 Prelim
Great show Giles, congrats on your win. Here's to the next seven.
Here's how I did:
R1 - bunters (Lexplorer has confirmed as wrong)
R2 - DEPOT
R3 - Out of range
R4 - OCTANE
R5 - TANGOES
R6 - 573 (1 Away) 4 + 2 = 6 x 100 = 600. 7 x 5 = 35. 600 - 35 - 2 = 573.
R7 - SMILEY
R8 - GROANERS
R9 - 601 (On Target) 6 x 2 = 12 x 50 = 600. 8 - 7 + 600 = 601
R10 - hoaxs (Again, wrong. Correct speling is HOAXES.)
R11 - SORTING
R12 - PEAKED
R13 - LATRINES
R14 - 748 (On Target) 5 x 2 = 10 x 3 = 30 x 25 = 750. 9 - 7 = 2. 750 - 2 = 748.
Conundrum - Giles beat me to it. Unknown if I would have beaten Jean.
If I'd been playing, then Giles would have thrashed me 119-47. I was leading Jean 72-80 going into the Conundrum, so it'll be a forever mystery if I'd have beaten her.

Mark kindly passed the selections to me in private message again so I could have a quick play through every time I had no call at work.
Judging by what I scored without an opponent, you must have scored in every round and hit the 9, so a great job of consistency on your first game, not easy to do! Keep it up (for 9 more games)

Superb debut Giles. I think you got 13 maxes (correct me if I'm wrong), which I think is one of, if not the, best debuts ever.
Couldn't help but snigger when Nick said that Jean had "beat off" Peter yesterday. Shame I missed yesterday's show.

Super awesome début, Giles!!! Managed to get 765 in the first numbers going 85 x 9, and matched you every other round including the conundrum.
Let's hope for more of the same.
EQUANTS/NOUGATS in round 5.
2nd Numbers Alt.: ((5 + (2 / 2)) x 100) - (7 x 4) = 572

12 maxes, missed the first numbers, and also WOYLIES (in round 7) wasn't mentioned either. PINHEAD being the other of course.Eoin Monaghan wrote:Superb debut Giles. I think you got 13 maxes (correct me if I'm wrong), which I think is one of, if not the, best debuts ever.

Thanks all for the very nice comments
At the very start of the recording I was understandably rather nervous, and that difficult numbers rather threw me. My declaration was rather last minute (or last second).
I was pleased with most of the other rounds though. But I did feel some sympathy for Jean, she was a rather good player and would have beaten the average viewer I think.

Rawlo got 14 maxes on his debut. Still, absolutely brilliant Giles. Andy has serious competition now, and I'd be very surprised if the final wasn't Andy vs Giles!Eoin Monaghan wrote:Superb debut Giles. Congratulations Giles - highest debut score ever. The previous highest was 124 by Jonathan Coles.

Very well played Giles. Almost made me glad that I had to lost to Jean yesterday! Looking forward to seeing if you can maintain the high standard and maybe even beat Andy's 8 game total.
