Spoilers For Monday March 18th 2013
So, after a few days off for the Cheltenham Festival, Countdown returns to its full glory. (Unfortunately, we'll be having more disruption from our "neigh"-bours in a couple of weeks time. )
Sam McElhinney returns, hoping to give a better performance than the last game, which I think has gone out of most people's memories. It will be his 4th, if he wins today, and when you know what's coming round the corner tomorrow, he might need to win today to guarantee his place in the finals...............
Jon Culshaw retains his place in DC for the week. (Well, he was only given 1 show last week!!)
Graeme returns with the recap later.

Re: Spoilers For Monday March 18th 2013
Todays challenger, Ricky Roberts, was sat behind me (top right of photo) in the audience when I got the conundrum on 19 Nov 2012, the episode Heather Styles became an Octochamp.
He was apparently due to be recording that day but it was cancelled at the last minute.

Heh, he gets everywhere that guy. Interesting character. He came across as a bit distant or anti-social for whatever reason in the green room. Oh well

(10+7)*4=68; 68x10=680; 680-(6/2)=677.

Think TACHYONS was there at one point for a nice unpencilled word.
Mike Brown: "Round 12: T N R S A E I G U
C1: SIGNATURE (18) ["9; not written down"]
C2: SEATING (7)
Score: 108–16 (max 113)
Another niner for Adam and yet another century. Well done, that man."

RIFLEMAN as a beater in r11?
Re: Spoilers For Monday March 18th 2013
I was quite surprised that, when declared in R1, BASTARD wasn't bleeped out.

Yes, very nice, Grant.Grant Waters wrote:RIFLEMAN as a beater in r11?
Yes, a bit of double standards there, especially since BASTARDS was bleeped out in Series 61.Mark Ivey wrote:I was quite surprised that, when declared in R1, BASTARD wasn't bleeped out.
PARVISE in round 12 and BUNDLERS in round 13.
Also the HOMAGES round sounded a bit odd, it sounded well like HOMAGE was being said. I assume benefit of the doubt was used in that.

Weird. I guess BASTARD is considered a techincal term while BASTARDS is an insult... or someone just dropped the ball.
Either way, I can already hear the Daily Mail writing their furious article.

Re: Spoilers For Monday March 18th 2013
IIRC when Charlie had WANKERS bleeped (the first ever bleep on Countdown, I think?) Damian mentioned it was because it was half term (and so there was a rather higher risk of someone complaining about their child learning rude words from the show, or something). Given that that BASTARDS example was aired in August (school holidays again), my guess would be that they had a similar rationale then, whereas today all the kids should have been safely at school.Mark Ivey wrote:Weird. Re: Spoilers For Monday March 18th 2013
I don't think it necessarily needs to be bleeped. It's not that offensive as swear words go, especially as its original non-sweary meaning is still in current use. I doubt they'd bleep the word BLOODY either.Mark Ivey wrote:Weird. 'Bastard' has been on Corrie at 7:30pm before now, IE before the 9pm watershed, worse things are suggested at 10am on Jeremy Kyle...Mark Ivey wrote:I was quite surprised that, when declared in R1, BASTARD wasn't bleeped out.
