Google Doodles
Why isn't there a topic for these already? Anyway, I think today's is possibly the most excellent yet, for what would have been Les Paul's 96th birthday - a playable guitar! I've just spent about an hour pissing about (you can strum the strings with the mouse, or use the keyboard) and you can get some pretty cool tunes out of it. You can even do chords on it (sort of) by pressing keys together. The only thing lacking is a record button, which is a shame (although you can do it with something like Audacity, so it's all OK really).
This was me attempting to do something like a flamenco style Exorcist theme but it went a bit wrong (some sequencing trickery was involved in this, I must confess).
Anyway, in conclusion, Google are pretty cool for doing these.

Agreed and I also thought about doing a topic for something like this. I love all their doodles (even the ones that aren't animated). But yeah today's one is probably the best so far but I can't play anything tuneful on it. I quite liked the John Lennon 'Imagine' one too.

Re: Google Doodles
Cool and that but fuck me it pisses me off. They try and make you sign up for iGoogle (which I find fucking useful) but then you have no idea what these things are from the iGoogle front page. You have to hear about it on Facebook or do a search on Google that leads to the regular page layout being used for the display of the results. Granted, one tends to do a Google search or hear about it on Facebook on any particular day that this happens but it's still annoying.
So I sign out, try and go to the Google homepage whilst signed out so that iGoogle doesn't come up, and still can't get it to work. The logo is just a static image.
Presumably seems to be something to do with recognising I have an iGoogle cookie stored on the PC, and no matter how I edit the URL or how I fuck about, it always says "You have signed out".
In the end I have to load up a separate fucking browser, where I haven't ever signed in to iGoogle, to be able to see the Les Paul thing.
It's a fucking joke. Surely some of you other dicks have gone through this same thing today?
Worst bit is, there used to be a "view regular Google homepage" link on iGoogle, which was perfect, and it no longer exists.

They are cool, yeah. But a part of me is nostalgic for the days when a day with a Google Doodle was a pretty fucking massive thing.

Some guy does a 'Computer Corner" on this forum, so perhaps he could find an elegant solution.Matt Morrison wrote:Cool and that but fuck me it pisses me off.
Or failing that, see if you can find someone that has worked for Google and knows about these things. But I don't suppose you know anyone like that.
In the meantime, have a doodle with this to get over the frustration.

No idea what Matt's on about, but I never see this stuff either as I have a background image set for Google's home page. Just disabled it and the guitar thing is quite cool (although nothing like as cool as the sequencer link that Brian posted).

That is really excellent too, I'm definitely going to be messing with that for a while. It's like a Tenori-On! Incidentally, if anyone's got a spare Tenori-On that they no longer want and would like to send me, it would be very much appreciated.Phil Reynolds wrote:(although nothing like as cool as the sequencer link that Brian posted).

THanks for trying Joseph, but no - it just forwards me to http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en&aig=0&reason=1 which is again that "You have signed out" page as previously screenshotted.Joseph Krol wrote:Matt, does signing out and going here work?

Today's doodle is an interactive mobile. It's pretty cool and you can make it move. I spent an entire 30 seconds being thoroughly entertained by this and have no idea what it's for. Any offers anyone?

Re: Google Doodles
Thanks - I enjoyed watching that. I was disappointed he beat my 11.1 (the same as what he declared to be the "world record") with his 10.9 in the hurdles. I don't know what his "special technique" is, but it certainly seems to work quite well, as when I do it, I only have about a 10% chance of making it to the end without hitting a hurdle.Thomas Carey wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzO9osqs4-Y
