Best word I never knew I knew

Post by Ryan Taylor »

I was just clicking about on apterous homepage and stumbled across an old game of mine. I saw I had got a pencil for CONCHIES which I can safely say I have no recollection of a) pencilling the word and b) ever knowing that such a word existed. I then had a look down my list of pencils and can see a few more words that, currently, I don't know exist, yet at some point in the past I apparently knew them to be words. I was surprised to see words like GROSZE, HETMAN and PELISSE have been declared by me at some time or another. Does this happen to everyone or is my memory just very crap?

So basically I just wondered "What is the best word that you have ever spotted that you never even knew that you once knew?" (if that makes sense). It doesn't have to be a max or a pencil or anything, just any word that shocked you when you realised that you had in fact declared it in the past. I haven't got a favourite yet as I keep stumbling across new ones.

Going backwards, when I was on the show and I spotted ANORTHITE and TAMBOTIE I probably wouldn't have spotted them on Apterous beforehand and I didn't have a clue how I knew them.

When I look back at old games, I constantly think to myself 'How did I know/not know that word? I would never/always spot that nowadays'.

I was going through Scrabble games the other day and found one where I played VIEWY, which I must've known at some point but don't know. Well, didn't until the re-reading of course.

I've got pencils for NAUTILOID, PROXIMO and SUNFAST, none of which I'd claim to know now. I suspect it happens when I miss a word and then it happens to come up again a few days later.

Do you need Superstats to play this game? I'm way too tight for that, although maybe you can mug me at COLIN.

Heh nope. Just whenever you flick through one of your old games and you come across a word that makes you think "wow, how did I know that?"
