- The Main Event: The Winter Closed itself. This tournament will be divided into sections based on rating. Rather than have a pre-defined cutoff, I will instead split the list at "convenient" points, with the goal of having about a dozen in the top and bottom sections, and the rest in the middle section. Matches in this event will be best-of-three "Standard 15" games. The exact formats will depend on the number of entries, but you should expect to keep playing throughout the course of the event (i.e., no knockout formats).
- Speed Demon: A tournament featuring 10-second rounds. Again, the exact tournament format will depend on the number of entries, but the basic unit will be one "Speed 15" game (as opposed to the two speed 9 games from last year). This will probably be pool-and-playoff format, but there is a chance of some knockout being added.
- Junior Mint: A tournament featuring the Junior format. (All ages are eligible.) As above, this will probably be pool-and-playoff format, with a small chance of knockout.
Dates and times: Anyone who registers by Friday, November 26 will be placed in the tournament; people who register after that date will be added only on a space-available-and-convenient basis. The tournament will start on Sunday, November 28. The basic unit of the tournament will be the "week" (i.e., you will have a week 1 match, a week 2 match, etc.) The tournament weeks will then be:
Week 1: November 28 -- December 4
Week 2: December 5 -- December 11
Week 3: December 12 -- December 18
Holiday Break
Week 4: January 2 -- January 8
Week 5: January 9 -- January 15
Week 6: January 16 -- January 22
I will (soon) have a list of participants available on the tournament web site (once the tournament web site gets created), so that you can check that your registration got noticed.
