After Sohail's win yesterday, he is now guaranteed to be at least the alternate for the finals starting next week, but can he actually get to the point of being a finalist himself? He's aiming for his 6th win today, and he's been impressive so far, can he keep it going? I've been very busy so no commentary on the DC guest.

Very unlucky for Sohail to have a couple of those mistakes like the ADVANCE(d) moment, he really did seem like a strong competitor. Shame that 5 wins isn't enough this series for the finals, although a retroactive sigh of relief for Grant now.

Will miss Sohail's happy smile next week, but Rachael should be good to watch instead. Sohail must be kicking
himself over the second numbers game as well, where he did have the second 4 left to make his 836 (or he could
have taken the 1 away and got 1 nearer).

I had MERGE in R6, SCIONS in R7 which is no longer a max, APPLIED, APPLIES and PALSIED in R8 and CAVEMAN in R9.

"Cute" (or, if you're playing Omelette, highly effective) final numbers alt., using all the numbers in order:
100 x 1 + 6 + 3 + 4 + 10 = 123

MAENADIC as another beater in round 9. How unlucky was Sohail...that numbers game which he actually had (just subtract the 4) and ADVANCE was said as ADVANCED. Either of those would have took the win. Well played Rachael, I look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Edit: Anyone else notice the first four letters of round 11...RSTU. Was a nice little quirk I noticed at the time...just wanted a V next.

Once again (as in series 65) the number 9 seed did not get to be studio reserve for the finals, but it may be that he couldn't return for some reason. His place was taken by Philip Jackson, who had 4 wins.

Is there much point in being a studio reserve?? How often do they get to step in?

I presume Sohail would have turned up if he had been in the finals, but didn't think it worth taking a couple of days off work, just on the off chance.

Yup, sorry I'm being slow. I have a lot of coursework this time of year but it should all be done by the time my next recap (the final, since there isn't one on the 14th) should come out. Sorry for the inconvenience.
