I've been deliberating applying for the show for whatever series they might be able to fit me into, just because I don't know if I'm going to have the chance in some odd years from now. Normally I wouldn't ask you all and just do it. But one problem. I'm from the United States. Do you think the show has a specific restriction on international fans who have no residency in England whatsoever? And based on the expenses that the show has covered for past contestants, do you think that what would be left for me would be reasonable to cover?

In the Countdown rules:

FLIGHTS ARE ONLY PAID FOR CONTESTANTS TRAVELLING FROM IRELAND.

I'm sure there's no restriction other than that. But you'll have to pay your own way over, which is a few hundred. It depends how much you want it.

I can't see it being a problem. Rob Brownlie (who filmed on the same day as Ryan's first game) was Scottish but lived in France. He and his wife said their petrol allowance covered their EasyJet flights, so you might find you've got a ~£45 start on the flights. Or towards your rowing boat. Or whatever.

That's a hell of a lot cheaper, though. It's bloody pricy to cross the channel. But ITV will do the accommodation, Jordan, so if you can get together the flights cost, there's nothing to stop you.

Try and fit in a Co-event too. Make it a trip.

I was actually considering trying to use this as a way to justify a trip to England but if I remember I looked at the application form and thought I read that only citizens of the UK could apply. I might be (and honestly hope that I am) mistaken, though.

I mean if there's no citizenship restrictions then the next time I have the money for a decent trip I'm going to try and apply for the show. Though I suspect that the nerdy 20-something male demographic is a bit flooded for the show so it might be somewhat difficult

I doubt it - I think "I flew over for the states solely for this show" is enough of a storyline to negate any demographic issues to be honest.

Apparently last form I read said I had to be a legal resident of the UK, so unfortunately there's my answer. Oh well, least I thought it out.
