Enjoy the show.

Round 1: F D M A E H O V I

C1: VIDEO (5)
C2: FOAMED (6)
Score: 0–6 (max 6)

Not an easy start, but Wayne takes the early lead with the darrenic 6.

Round 2: D E A T E G P K R

C1: DEPART (6)
C2: PREDATE (7)
DC: TAPERED (7)
OT: PARGETED (8)
Score: 0–13 (max 14)

Another darren, but it's missed by all, but Wayne's 7 keeps Chris at the start line.

PARGETED means to cover with PARGET, which are any of various plasters or roughcasts for covering walls or other surfaces, especially a mortar of lime, hair, and cow dung for lining chimney flues.

Round 3: T S R A O L R A I

C1: RATIOS (6)
C2: rotars
DC: SARTORIAL (18)
Score: 6–13 (max 32)

Hmmmm, I was thinking that Wayne was thinking of ROTORS, as opposed to ROTAS with an extra R. No matter, Chris is off the mark, while DC impress with a super brill 9 :!: :o  :D

Round 4: G E O S A W R C W

C1: GRACES (6)
C2: WAGERS (6)
DC: CARGOES (7)
OT: CORSAGE (7)
Score: 12–19 (max 39)

6's from each of the contestants, and 2 7's available as well.

Round 5: 75, 9, 9, 5, 2, 5. Target: 344.

C1: 342. Mistake in working.
C2: -
JS: 344. ((75 - 9) x 5) + 9 + 5 (10)
Score: 12–19 (max 49)

Jeff steals the limelight with his method, as both contestants falter.

Anneka talks about her 2010 documentary Home Is Where The Heart Is, where a young homeless girl lived with her for 2 weeks.

Teatime teaser: SEEFRUMP -> PERFUMES

Round 6: N E A R U D G S E

C1: GANDERS (7)
C2: ENRAGED (7)
DC: GREASED (7) UNGREASED (18) DUNGAREES (18)
Score: 19–26 (max 67)

Double 9 attack by DC, as the max rises and rises...........

Round 7: N D L I A U T I R

C1: DRAIN (5)
C2: talid
DC: NAUTILI (7)
OT: DIURNAL (7) UNITARD (7)
Score: 24–26 (max 74)

Wayne's lead has shrunk to 2 all of a sudden with........... that word. :?

A UNITARD is a one-piece leotard with full-length stockings.

Round 8: N O E M O T Z U B

C1: MOUNT (5)
C2: tombe
DC: ENTOMB (6)
OT: BOUTON (6) MOUTON (6) OUBOET (6)
Score: 29–26 (max 80)

And Chris now has the lead, as Wayne might want to be ENTOMBed in his tombe..............

A BOUTON is a terminal club-shaped enlargement of a nerve fibre at a synapse with another neuron.
MOUTON is a sheepskin that has been processed to resemble another fur, especially seal or beaver.

Round 9: V T D E O E L C A

C1: ELATED (6)
C2: DEVOTE (6)
DC: CLEATED (7) COVETED (7) LOCATED (7)
OT: CLEAVED (7) VALETED (7)
Score: 35–32 (max 87)

Plenty of 7's around. Not that the contestants noticed...........

Susie's Origins Of Words tells of the origins of BATOLOGY (study of brambles (or blackberries, if you prefer)), ARISTOLOGY (the art of dining), STERNUTATION (the act of sneezing), PATZER (a poor chess player), YUMPING (a rallying term for leaving the ground while going over a ridge), LOGOMACHY (arguing about words) and LUCUBRATION (studying or composing late into the night).

Round 10: 75, 7, 2, 5, 8, 8. Target: 529.

C1: 529. (7 x 75) + 5 - (8 / 8) (10)
C2: 529. (75 x 7) + (8 / 2) (10)
Score: 45–42 (max 97)

Some maxes at last. :)

Teatime teaser: ICYSTARS -> SACRISTY

Round 11: G S R O A I T D A

C1: garotid
C2: graits
DC: GRATIS (6) ASTROID (7)
OT: ADAGIOS (7)
Score: 45–42 (max 104)

Oh dear, back to rubbish again. The scores stay the same in what is turning into a low-scoring encounter.

Round 12: Y E A M U C S Q F

C1: fames
C2: QUEASY (6)
DC: MASQUE (6)
OT: CASQUE (6) CAUSEY (6) CAYUSE (6) FAUCES (6)
Score: 45–48 (max 110)

Quite a good 6 there by Wayne turns the 3 point defecit into a 3 point lead.

A CASQUE is an open, conical helmet with a nose guard, commonly used in the medieval period.
A CAUSEY is an Ancient Roman highway.
A CAYUSE is a Western U.S. term for a horse, especially an Indian pony.
FAUCES are the cavities at the back of the mouth, leading into the pharynx.

Round 13: N X T I E P T O I

C1: TIPTOE (6)
C2: PETITION (8)
DC: POINTE (6)
Score: 45–56 (max 118)

NOW THAT'S A SPOT :!: :!:  :o 8-) Even DC could only get a 6 out of that. Surely, Wayne's won it now.

Round 14: 50, 2, 9, 7, 6, 9. Target: 735.

C1: 736. ((9 + 6) x 50) - (2 x 7) (7)
C2: 736. Mistake in working.
RR: 735. (9 + 6) x (50 - ((2 + 7) / 9)) (10)
Score: 52–56 (max 128)

Ooooooooooooh. Chris gets his 7, but then Wayne admits to not writing down the last bit of his working out, so Jeff disqualifies him from the round, and all of a sudden, we now have a crucial conundrum.

Round 15: R O M P I N G I T

C1 buzzes on 2.5 seconds to say PROMPTING which is INCORRECT.
C2 buzzes on 6.25 seconds to say IMPORTING which is correct.
Final Score: 52–66 (max 138)

I bet Wayne's heart was in his mouth when Chris buzzed in then. Luckily for Wayne, Chris saw 2 P's in there, when there was only one.........

So, Wayne (with a little fistpump) wins the game, although following on from the last 8 days of Jayne, today's show sort of brought us back down to Earth with a bump.

Let's hope we have a better contest tomorrow. Join me for that. :)

Till then, bye bye.

3rd numbers: Did Rachel deliberately go the long way round for the 49 to use all the numbers instead of just saying (9-2)x7 ?

Yes - she showed how the contestant could have got there with a slight adjustment to their method.

Yeah, I realised immediately I'd done that, but for some reason, I just didn't want to correct myself. :?

How bizarre. :? :P
