Spoilers for Monday 21st January 2008 [Winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

Post by Conor »

I thought this might be a good idea - to confine all the spoilers for a show to one thread. It doesn't mean anybody reading unwanted spoilers plus it's neater.

Yes, it also makes it easier for recappers. I might make a new topic for each game automatically, so we don't end up with duplicate topics (although it's much less likely than on Yahoo.)

Can everybody still do at least 24 lines worth of "SPOILER" before each post though please, in case I click here by accident?

Only 24 lines? You must have one of those small screens.

I don't see how anyone can click on the thread by accident?

Will the spoiler space lines still be needed for any practice games and main game recaps though?

No they didn't say ADHESION or even ANODISE - presume ANODIZES is ok too.

Damn! I had ADHESION/ANODIZES but missed ABROGATE. Incidentally, in that round where ADHESION/ANODIZES wasn't mentioned it did look suspiciously like DC were taking it easy so as to encourage the contestants.

I am a little surprised that for the 2nd numbers none of the contestants said:

(75 + 1) x 9 = 684

Yeah, but adding on numbers before multiplying has never been a strong point for most contestants.

damn, I had OLEASTERS but Conor is always there first - much before I watch the show on channel 4 +1. I knew I shouldn't have got excited about a beater with Mr Travers around.

Oh I know that, but I thought with the number you have to multiply and then the number you have to add on, being the same (9 in this case) and there is a 1 in the selection, I thought it might've stood out.

I think what Conor is saying is that even adding the 1 on before multiplying doesn't "stand out" to a lot of contestants. 75 lots of 9 add 1 lot of 9 gives 76 lots of 9 is constantly taught (in algebraic form) in maths lessons, yet contestants seem to find it baffling.

To be fair though Kirk and Joseph, the two contestants today weren't too great - you shouldn't really be using them as a yardstick... and I agree with David O'D that definitely on at least one, if not more, of the ADHESION/ABROGATE/OLEASTERS rounds, DC had the word in question but didn't offer it, so as to go easy on the contestants.

Now that we have separate threads/forums for spoilers, surely we don't still have to do spoiler space Jon? I take it that since nobody else has done any, we can safely do without it now. About time too...

Maybe I should put 24 lines of "JOKE" space before such posts in future? :(
