C1: Champion Tom Barnes (2 wins, 204 points.) An Apteforumite from West Hampstead, London, but originally from Gloucester. He works as a sports trader for a spread betting company. How do you apply for that job, you may ask......., Tom just filled in an online application form.
C2: Challenger Stuart Pecksen. From Longford, Coventry, Warwickshire. He is a student teacher, who has just completed his student practice. When he left school, he joined the Royal Artillery and he also won a light-heavyweight title while he was there.

RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Enjoy the show.

Round 1: H T J I U A R I C

C1: HAIRCUT (7)
C2: CHAIR (5)
Score: 7–0 (max 7)

Goodness :!:  :o That is a start. 8-) And there was me thinking that 5 was going to be the best.

Round 2: S B U I A R N D E

C1: URBANISED (18)
C2: BRANDS (6)
Score: 25–0 (max 25)

Ah, this brings back memories of when I was in the audience for the match between Bob De Caux and Jeffrey Burgin in Series 61. Like those 2, I thought the available 9 here at the time was UNBRAISED. What idiots we were :!:  Luckily, Tom and me are older and wiser now, so mistakes here. :D

Round 3: D L P I O E L A S

C1: DIPOLES (7)
C2: SPILLED (7)
DC: DOLLIES (7)
OT: ELASIPOD (8) SPADILLE (8)
Score: 32–7 (max 33)

Another impressive word from the champ, as Stuart gets off the mark at last. I think there would've been a 9 available if the O was an R, but what 9 exactly I'm not sure.....

A SPADILLE is the highest trump in certain card games, as the queen of clubs in omber.

Round 4: N C R I E O T Q E

C1: ERECTION (8)
C2: creotine
DC: EROTIC (6)
OT: NEOTERIC (8)
Score: 40–7 (max 41)

I suppose we can't blame Tom for getting an ERECTION in this round, but it's unlucky for Stuart, as I'm reliably informed that it's creAtine, not creOtine, that he was probably thinking of, having probably had some creatine supplements while boxing. 8-)

NEOTERIC simply means modern, new or recent.

Round 5: 75, 100, 25, 50, 3, 6. Target: 331.

C1: 328.
C2: 331. (3 x 100) + 25 + 6 (10)
Score: 40–17 (max 51)

But we can blame him for missing a sitter, and letting Stuart get back in........ :x

Gloria talks about Angels, her TV show where people explain their experiences of angels.

Teatime teaser: TAPEDECK -> PACKETED

Round 6: S L P I O A T R E

C1: EPILATORS (18)
C2: SPOILER (7)
Score: 58–17 (max 69)

But he makes up for it immediately after the break with ANOTHER 9 :!: :!:  :o ;) :) :D  8-)

Round 7: N S G I A I X N P

C1: PANGS (5)
C2: GAINS (5)
DC: PAINING (7)
OT: PANINIS (7) SNIPING (7)
Score: 63–22 (max 76)

But just 5's here for the contestants this time, as DC agonise over their PAINING 7.

Round 8: S K T E O A M R O

C1: MARKETS (7)
C2: STREAM (6)
DC: MAESTRO (7) SKATER (6)
Score: 70–22 (max 83)

Tom is just finding those words, while Stuart is just finding.......... (fill in blank)

Round 9: M H R E A E V U N

C1: MANURE (6)
C2: HEAVEN (6)
DC: AVENUE (6)
OT: HEAVER (6) HUMANE (6) MAUVER (6) MEANER (6) RENAME (6)
Score: 76–28 (max 89)

Flat, flat, flat, flat, flat.

Susie's Origins Of Words tells of the origin of "up the spout".

Round 10: 50, 5, 10, 2, 7, 3. Target: 813.

C1: 812. (((2 x 3) + 10) x 50) + 7 + 5 (7)
C2: -
RR: 813. ((((50 - 7) x 2) - 5) x 10) + 3 (10)
Score: 83–28 (max 99)

A tricky numbers game to solve immediately, but Rachel does as Tom's lead goes above the half-century already.

Teatime teaser: HOBOMINE -> BONHOMIE

Round 11: F N M I E A T E G

C1: MEETING (7)
C2: FAMINE (6)
DC: GEMINATE (8)
Score: 90–28 (max 107)

And that MEETING gives Tom the win already, as DC impress with a darrenic 8.

Round 12: T N S O U O V N A

C1: VAUNTS (6)
C2: TOONS (5)
DC: SUNTAN (6)
OT: SANTON (6)
Score: 96–28 (max 113)

How many people pronounce TOONS as TUNES :?: :? Well, Stuart does, but it makes little to no difference, as Tom's 6 gets him closer to his 2nd century.

A SANTON is a Turkish saint.

Round 13: S D B I O E C I F

C1: BODICES (7)
C2: bidies
DC: CODIFIES (8)
OT: BIOCIDES (8)
Score: 103–28 (max 121)

Which he does with his 7, while DC get another good 8 as well.

A BIOCIDE is any chemical that destroys life by poisoning, especially a pesticide, herbicide, or fungicide.

Round 14: 100, 9, 6, 5, 5, 7. Target: 909.

C1: 909. ((5 / 5) + 100) x 9 (10)
C2: 908.
Score: 113–28 (max 131)

And that just makes up Stuart's day, a sort of reverse from the first numbers game.

Round 15: H A L V E A C A N

C1 buzzes on 0.1 seconds to say AVALANCHE which is correct.
Final Score: 123–28 (max 141)

And that's a super speedy conundrum solve, which gives Tom a 123 score and a place in the top 10 of highest winning margins of victory. 8-)

Will he be celebrating octochampdom in a week's time :?: Join me then to see if he does.

As I have said already, I'm not doing next Wednesday's recap, as I'm going to be busy supporting the Mighty Terriers. ;) :) :D  8-)

So, I'll be back in a week's time for my next recap.

So, till then, bye bye.

James - re: your comment on R4, I imagine the valid word which Stuart had in mind was CREATINE. As a boxer, Stuart may have heard of creatine supplements.

Cool, thanks Matt. :)

As I'm not a boxer, I WON'T have heard of creatine supplements.
