It's gone funny for me too but I thought Java was just the in-game thing so it wouldn't be that would it? (I know nothing about computers so there's probably no point in me speculating.)

Right, the bottom and right hand side of my console have decreased in size, so that I can only see 3 and a half of ratings digits, no names, and only the very top of the custom challenge button. I can still play the game, I can scroll through players and challenge them, but I can't see whether they are playing or not which is very annoying. This is happening with chrome. Still can't load with firefox and have tried safari and same is happening. Very odd. Just decided it was going to start happening yesterday afternoon. Downloaded the latest java to see if that would help, but no joy. Is this just happening to me?

Re: Bug reports
Multiple tie-break games like these Spoilage games and foreign conundrum games are skewing the "Highest maximum" figures by hundreds, if not thousands of points in total (Ian and Andy's games make up 690; there may well be other foreign CAs with loads of TBs that are out there). This makes me sad because I've dropped back to 69% of the max on the all-rounders leaderboard (basically dropped fully 1% after Andy's Russian Conundrum Attack). Can these be excluded from the maximum stats like naughty schoolchildren?

Yes, meant to post much the same thing the other day, this has affected the standard 15-rounder and standard 9-rounder highest max sections too.Adam Gillard wrote:Multiple tie-break games like these Spoilage games and foreign conundrum games are skewing the "Highest maximum" figures by hundreds, if not thousands of points in total (Ian and Andy's games make up 690; there may well be other foreign CAs with loads of TBs that are out there). Reports that some users are experience trouble logging into apterous after recent log in changes. They tried different browsers but it kept just saying Attempt 1 of 500 and then counting up but not logging in.
On a similar note, they can't report this problem as they're not on the forum and are waiting for verification for the forum. Namely these are Michelle Nevitt and Callum Carton (Callum has been waiting about 3 months I think).

Re: Bug reports
I can't get in to the game. When I went on the homepage I was logged out (which is very unusual). I logged in successfully but then when I tried to access the game it told me I wasn't logged in. I tried logging back in a few more times and realised that as soon as I press anything after logging in, it logs me out. When I pressed the Play (small) button as usual it prompted me to log in again in the pop up window. I did this but it still wouldn't load the game (just cycled through login attempt 1, 2, 3... of 500). Back on the homepage I had been logged out again. Might be something to do with the new multiple login feature.

Is it down for everyone?

That's a problem with Internet Explorer, not apterous. My general advice is don't use Internet Explorer, but if you have no choice then this might give you some ideas: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... ed96261f7/ (especially the reply from Robinson Zhang).Jayne Wisniewski wrote:I also had this problem yesterday. I've just installed the new version of Java (twice) but when I click play it tells me the required plug-in is not installed. I'm not great when it comes to technical stuff with regards computers, is there something else I should do? Every other time I've had to update Java it has worked straight away.
Thanks.

Re: Bug reports
Just read the advice on the homepage. I use Firefox, not Chrome. I managed to get on with Safari but it's got the old teething problems of getting in with my 4th attempt and having to play warm-up rounds with Prune. After all that's done it should run speedily as long as Safari doesn't decide to quit itself. Firefox comes up with the "If you are reading this, you do not have Java installed or configured correctly" message.

It was only about two days ago I was thinking "I must ask Charlie to change the log-in thing so you can be logged in from several places" and then I come back to C4C from a day away and you've done it. Absolutely awesome bit of implementation. Equally useful for me will be being able to remain logged in from multiple browsers on the same PC for testing stylesheets!

I changed the authentication recently so that you have to log in again if your IP changes (since you can now be logged in from several places). Seems like that was a mistake. I'll change it back.

I just got the word OTOÑAREN is Spanish and thought it was a dead cert for a pencil but I didn't get one. So, after the game I thought I'd have a look and see who had pencilled it already but in Lexplorer, it said the word hadn't yet been pencilled. Is this a bug or is it just that the Lexplorer pages aren't updating that frequently?

Re: Bug reports
Err.... You pencilled it yourself, on the 21st of June, according to this. Maybe you Lexplorered OTONAREN instead?Karen Pearson wrote:I just got the word OTOÑAREN is Spanish and thought it was a dead cert for a pencil but I didn't get one. So, after the game I thought I'd have a look and see who had pencilled it already but in Lexplorer, it said the word hadn't yet been pencilled. Is this a bug or is it just that the Lexplorer pages aren't updating that frequently?

Any words that don't just contain ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ don't show up as being pencilled, even if they were.Chris Hare wrote:Err.... Re: Bug reports
It has just happened again. I have just had OVERSEXED and BETROTHAL in consecutive rounds in this game even though I had them both in this game (although I didn't solve BETROTHAL the first time).

I'm investigating, but my house has just been burgled so other investigations may have to take priority...Ryan Taylor wrote:It has just happened again. It tells me it hasn't been pencilled in. Is that good? Separate to that, if you click on "languages" it says "OTOREN is not valid in any language recognised on apterous."Charlie Reams wrote:Works for me. Anyone else?Thomas Carey wrote: On the lexplorer thing which tells you if it was pencilled.

Might be a browser-specific bug. It works fine in Chrome+Linux. What are you using?Gavin Chipper wrote:It tells me it hasn't been pencilled in. Is that good? My final 20 conundrums for reaching the peak of Mount Conundrum was ruined by no fewer than 7 repeats. This was meant to be a joyous occasion.
Edit: I hope apterous got stolen.
