Adam Gillard is from Stanmore (North-west London) and is studying for a degree in speech, language and cognition. He loves his snooker so was no doubt watching the Masters final last night and he is also a big Spurs fan so was probably watching his side get a draw against my team, United, yesterday. Never a red card!

Adam started off steady in his first 2 wins but then showed some flair in his third victory scoring a whopping 126 points spotting ROGATIONS along the way. This means he is averaging 112 points per game now which is series champion standard. Let's see how he gets on today.

The task of beating Adam relies upon Andy Turner who is a teaching assistant. Also, he has once rode a bull. That is pretty much all information we get given.

Jonathan Maitland is in the Countdown studios for the first time. According to his wiki entry he likes curry and scrabble making him an ideal person for series 63 champion Jack Hurst to get along with. Jonathan has also been on Eggheads but lost mainly because Kevin Ashman is a fucking hero. He should be knighted. I love Kevin Ashman. Kevin if you're reading this, I love you. No seriously. I LOVE you.

GAME ON!

Enjoy the show.

Round 1: D O T E Z O L E M

C1: EMOTED (6)
C2: LOOTED (6)
DC: DEMOTE (6) MOOTED (6) TOOLED (6)
OT: LOOMED (6) MELTED (6) ZOOMED (6)
Score: 6–6 (max 6)

Flat as a panini.

Round 2: T O S T I K A R T

C1: TROIKAS (7)
C2: RATIOS (6)
OT: ATTRITS (7)
Score: 13–6 (max 13)

Nice word from the Gillard means he gets his nose in front.

Round 3: S O W I H E S N T

C1: SNOWIEST (8)
C2: WHITES (6)
DC: SHOWIEST (8) TOWNIES (7)
OT: HISTONES (8)
Score: 21–6 (max 21)

Adam spots SNOWIEST for the second time and it means his lead is increased by 8 as it was the first time he spotted it in his first show.

Round 4: C N A D E P S I E

C1: CANDIES (7)
C2: pences
DC: ANISEED (7)
OT: SAPIENCE (8)
Score: 28–6 (max 29)

Adam slips off the max as SAPIENCE proves too hard to spot for anybody whilst his opponent receives more misery because as well as being beaten by Adam's word he also finds out his word wouldn't be allowed anyway. Oh deary me it does not look good. Andy better get this numbers game to get out of single figures.

Round 5: 25, 10, 1, 8, 4, 9. Target: 660.

C1: 660. (8*4+9+25)*10 (10)
C2: -
Score: 38–6 (max 39)

Nope. No luck with the numbers for Andy and he remains on his lonesome 6 points. The Gillard solves this very nicely though, so well done. Game is pretty much over at the first interval.

DC Guest Time: I knew I recognised his face from something else! He explains his time doing the show House of Horrors which I can now recall. It involved him exposing dodgy builders (cowboys) and he tells of a time when a van pulled up alongside him and a burly man got out. Thinking he was about to be punched Jonathan was relieved to hear the words "good show" from the gent.

Teatime teaser: BREADCOD -> BARCODED

Round 6: X A R O C A O G R

C1: AGORA (5)
C2: CARGO (5)
DC: ORCA
Score: 43–11 (max 44)

Only two 5's to go at in this one and Adam 'n' Andy find them both. AGORA is the monetary unit of Israel, no surprises that Adam went with that one then.

Round 7: N E G U D I S G R

C1: GRUDGES (7)
C2: SURGING (7)
DC: DRUGGIES (8)
OT: UNRIGGED (8)
Score: 50–18 (max 52)

All the words offered in this round included two G's. Coincidence?

Round 8: T A U M P R E S D

C1: PASTURED (8)
C2: TEMPURAS (8)
OT: DUMPSTER (8) UPSTREAM (8)
Score: 58–26 (max 60)

8's galore and Andy seemed to surprise himself there. Adam though is not letting Andy have a chance at reducing his lead. You could say he's being greedy with the points.

Round 9: T O N A L E B A M

C1: OMENTAL (7)
C2: NOTABLE (7)
DC: BOATMEN (7) ABALONE (7) LAMBENT (7)
OT: MALONATE (8)
Score: 65–33 (max 68)

The third round in a row with 8 as a max although this time it's darrenical and nobody finds it apart from the clever little computer.

Susie's Origins of Words: She discusses the origin of the word STEW in today's little snippet.

Round 10: 75, 6, 3, 4, 7, 9. Target: 976.

C1: 976. (9+4)*75+7-6 (10)
C2: 976. (9+4)*75+7-6 (10)
Score: 75–43 (max 78)

Easy numbers game if you know your 75 times table. Interestingly Adam's lead of 32 points is exactly as it was at the end of the first "half" so Andy has managed to match Adam in every round of this "half". Perhaps I was a little harsh to dig in to Andy earlier on.

Teatime teaser: ADAMBENT -> BANDMATE

This teaser seemed quite personal indeed. What's the conundrum going to be? ADAMANTLY?!

Round 11: W U S A M E R L D

C1: MAULERS (7)
C2: SWARMED (7)
DC: muraled
OT: MEDLARS (7) REMUDAS (7)
Score: 82–50 (max 85)

MAXED OUT.

Round 12: R N R U I N O F V

C1: INURN (5)
C2: UNION (5)
DC: RUIN
OT: RONIN (5)
Score: 87–55 (max 90)

Shitting 'orrible letters. High fives all round. This is the 7th consecutive round that champ and challenger have equalled each other.

Round 13: T E B A V O P E U

C1: UPBEAT (6)
C2: ABOUT (5)
DC: TOUPEE (6)
Score: 93–55 (max 96)

Adam is UPBEAT after finally finding his first beater since round 5.

Round 14: 50, 7, 1, 10, 5, 6. Target: 277.

C1: 277. (50-5)*6+7 (10)
C2: 277. (50+6)*5-(10-7) (10)
Score: 103–65 (max 106)

Adam hits his 4th century and there's just time for Rachel to give us a little hint about today's conundrum. Apparently it is about Jeff :o

Round 15: O B E S E J E R K

C1 buzzes on 5 seconds to say JOBSEEKER which is correct.
Final Score: 113–65 (max 116)

A funny scramble and perhaps Adam took a while to unravel it because he was laughing so much? I don't know.

Anyway, the sun sets on another day of Countdown and Adam waltzes on towards his 5th game after yet another impressive century in which he scored in every round.

Good pie.

I doubt it, I use the Northern Line to save money (by getting off at Camden Town or Mornington Crescent) and a little bit of running at either end of my journey helps me to stay fit at the same time.
