Will today's quarterfinalists be unlucky with the selections? All I know is that today's conundrum should be easy

What I mean by this, is that, for me at least, I find these harder conundrums easy as I like these obscurer ones, that don't end in ING etc.

Hmm that one was quite easy as far as 4 large go.
I did the 75/25 * 100+50+1, +1 route.

I imagine if you play Facebook Countdown quite often you'll find today's conundrum pretty easy.

I didn't see it myself, but when Peter offered his solution, I then saw he could've got 454.

Yeah I'm surprised Carol didnt point that out. I only got 455 (75+1)x((100+50)/25)-1

That gives me two out of two for my QF predictions, so I'm happy with that.

BEETROOT was an absolutely quality spot Mr MMC - I can't repeat what I said immediately after you declared it, but I was dead impressed.
Enjoyed both games so far (haven't watched the show in a couple of months) - well played to all, looking forward to next week.

Michael must have been kicking himself for missing a very easy first numbers round.
Interestingly (??) you can remove any one of the six selections and still solve it.

100 6 2 9 1 10 T: 550
(9*6+1)*10 = 550 (didn't use the 2 or the 100)
(100+10)*((9+1)/2) = 550 (didn't use the 6)
(100+10)*(6-1) = 550 (didn't use the 9)
(100+10)*(9-6+2) = 550 (didn't use the 1)
(100-9+1)*6-2 = 550 (didn't use the 10)

I thought POIGNANT to be an even better spot than BEETROOT. Absolutely incredible stuff. Looking forward to more of the same from the rest of the finals!

Yes just seen Friday's game - disappointed to see Michael go; what a great character... but he just missed too much easy stuff. But at least he went down with a fight, and walloped DC with BEETROOT.
Mind you, Peter's gradually showing himself to have a sense of humour as well, and I thought that QF was probably the best he's played so far. I can certainly see him making the final, but not really threatening David.

Using the summer hiatus to catch up with some of the games I missed while being away recently.
Managed to beat both contestants with CLOSURES and the second numbers game (using Carol's method, incidentally), but back down to earth with my CoNot form when it came to round 12. How is it that I managed to spot both AMOUNT and MOUNTED, yet missed AMOUNTED?

I've spotted MOUNTED before but missed AMOUNTED. You won't miss it again if you train yourself to look for an A next time you get MOUNTED as you don't want to look a fool!

I was well aware that with MOUNT, you look for an A. Indeed I talked about that very example to someone on Saturday. But what sort of idiot then finds MOUNTED in the same round, having already turned MOUNT into AMOUNT, and then fails to append the A to MOUNTED? As you say, hopefully it wont happen again.
