Pointles Series 3

That bird on it today is possibly the most beautiful creature I have ever seen
A group for contestants and lovers of the Channel 4 game show 'Countdown'.

That second round was a bit tricky, but you can so often rely on the contestants to be completely rubbish (the Mediterranean question was amazing) you have to be pretty unlucky not to manage it. Still don't like some of the head to head questions, too.Karen Pearson wrote:What do people think of the new round 2? I have just watched show 1 (Monday) and thought it was an extremely hard category! If you haven't seen it, you had to identify films from their (not so obvious) tag lines.
FWIW we got three pointless answers on the final question as it was a category we'd revised. Nice to know revision isn't wasted.
I only caught the middle round and would've got "Enter The World" - Avatar for a pointless answer and "On the air, unaware." - The Truman Show for one point. I had no idea the Titanic tagline was "Collide with Destiny though.Karen Pearson wrote:What do people think of the new round 2? Name anyone who won FIFA's World Player of the Year Award.Dinos Sfyris wrote:Out of interest what was the Final question? I missed the end
That's stupidly easy, I could name 10 if I tried.James Robinson wrote:Name anyone who won FIFA's World Player of the Year Award.Dinos Sfyris wrote:Out of interest what was the Final question? I missed the end
That's not supposed to be the tricky bit.Kai Laddiman wrote:That's stupidly easy, I could name 10 if I tried.James Robinson wrote:Name anyone who won FIFA's World Player of the Year Award.Dinos Sfyris wrote:Out of interest what was the Final question? I missed the end
I agree about chemistry. We'd have chosen that if we'd had it as we'd revised both the periodic table and nobel prize winners.Michael Wallace wrote:I wish someone would pick the chemistry jackpot question - I can't see what it could be other than elements (which would be awesome) or maybe Nobel Prize winners. I'm quite keen to see the universities question too. .
Yeah, that seems a pretty good bet. The only other things I can think of is Russell Group or maybe universities founded before a certain date, but Ivy League seems the much more likely one.Karen Pearson wrote:The only thing that comes to mind on universities is the Ivy League unis in the USA. If it is, then my three attempts at Pointless answers are the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell and Columbia (or maybe Brown). No doubt, no one will chose it so we'll never know!
Not Dartmouth?Karen Pearson wrote:The only thing that comes to mind on universities is the Ivy League unis in the USA. If it is, then my three attempts at Pointless answers are the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell and Columbia (or maybe Brown). No doubt, no one will chose it so we'll never know!
Who knows Hugh? Those were just my best guesses. Unless someone picks that catgeory, we'll never know.Hugh Binnie wrote: Not Dartmouth?
I immediately thought of Oxford or Cambridge colleges for the university question, or have they had that before?Michael Wallace wrote:Yeah, that seems a pretty good bet. No, not yet. Me and my sister were wondering about the Universities question too. Hopefully someone will pick it before it goes.Bob De Caux wrote:I immediately thought of Oxford or Cambridge colleges for the university question, or have they had that before?

I suppose that's possible too, although it seems a bit easy given how many there are, and how I imagine most people could barely name a handful.Bob De Caux wrote:I immediately thought of Oxford or Cambridge colleges for the university question, or have they had that before?
I enjoyed trying to work out the logic behind these key presses. Thank you.Hugh Binnie wrote:asdfghjhgfdss
Ha, we hadn't prepared it, we're just enormous geeksKaren Pearson wrote:Just caught up on Tuesday's show - really hard Q2 again! I know Michael & CF had prepared this one but we hadn't so I'm very glad it didn't come up for us. I was even struggling to remember who Bruce Wayne was!
Of course today's Round 1 was just a pleasure for me, Bond Villains.Karen Pearson wrote:Yep, there are two types of Round 1 question now.James Robinson wrote: Interesting also that they brought back the list round in round 1 (the citrus fruits round).

I'm not sure that's all that surprising - the new round 2 lends itself much more to very high scores than the open ended "name as many $things as you can". Really frustrated about chemistry not getting picked, but given last series it may well reappear under a slightly different topic.James Robinson wrote:Couldn't believe that the first 100 pointer arrived and it was Parmesan being a cheese
Nope, don't get it. We know the show is called Pointless, what are you getting at?Robert Baxter wrote:This show is Pointless
Joke? I thought you were meant to laugh at these things.Robert Baxter wrote:Joke - the show has no point is what I mean in the joke.
The laughing you do at jokes and the laughing you do at Baxter's posts [where's my bully-from-the-Simpsons smiley] aren't the same.Eoin Monaghan wrote:Joke? I thought you were meant to laugh at these things.Robert Baxter wrote:Joke - the show has no point is what I mean in the joke.
Sorry, don't get you. Why is it a joke to say that the show has no point?Robert Baxter wrote:Joke - the show has no point is what I mean in the joke.
He's at the age where you tell loads of jokes without checking they make sense, and then expecting everyone else to find them funny. I went through that phase, just not on an internet forum (Start of being a sycophant) where there are some genuinely funny and intelligent people (End of being a sycophant).Charlie Reams wrote:Sorry, don't get you. Larsen did this joke ages ago. I'm afraid you didn't deliver it with his style and panache.Robert Baxter wrote:This show is Pointless
And you use the quote button. Speaking of Jason, he hasn't been posting much lately.Dinos Sfyris wrote:Larsen did this joke ages ago. I'm afraid you didn't deliver it with his style and panache.Robert Baxter wrote:This show is Pointless
How dare you even suggest that Robert Baxter is actually Larsen.Eoin Monaghan wrote: And you use the quote button. Speaking of Jason, he hasn't been posting much lately.
Huh? I'm saying Robert isn't Jason.Oliver Garner wrote:How dare you even suggest that Robert Baxter is actually Larsen.Eoin Monaghan wrote: And you use the quote button. Speaking of Jason, he hasn't been posting much lately.

I watch Great TV Mistakes.
Edit: And F1
Edit: And Countdown
Edit: etc.
Sorry, wtf? Is this in the round where they give you ones to choose from or is this the end game and these were the answers that the final two came up with? Please don't let it be the latter.Michael Wallace wrote:Brilliant stuff on today's show:

Answers included Detroit, Orlando, and... Mexico.
Neither, it was the original normal round where you just gave an answer.Ryan Taylor wrote:Sorry, wtf? Yeah, it was pretty bad - I really don't know why you'd risk going on a game show if you're a teacher. You'd have to be either pretty confident of how awesome a teacher you are that your kids won't care, or pretty confident that you won't make a tit of yourself.James Robinson wrote:Neither, it was the original normal round where you just gave an answer.Ryan Taylor wrote:Sorry, wtf? What's even more impressive, is that they were both TEACHERS
I'm guessing not geography teacher. That would put the icing on the cake for hilarity! I don't know what I'd have gone with, California and Florida are certainly not gona be Pointless, I'd have probably took a stab at some of the New England states.Michael Wallace wrote: Yeah, it was pretty bad - I really don't know why you'd risk going on a game show if you're a teacher. Excellent. Can't wait to see how you and James got on.Karen Pearson wrote:We have a date! James and I are on Pointless on Monday 15th November.
It's a bit later than we were expecting because transmission is being interrupted for the Commonwealth Games.
