Would you use internet dating to find love

Fingers crossed, I may have found the one, but I used to mock those that used match.com and the like to find love.
But after a few virtual dates using msn and a webcam, I have since changed my mind.
Just wondered what you think?

No. I have nothing against internet dating, but my husband would be really pissed.

I met my girlfriend on plentyoffish.com. Our 1st anniversary is in two weeks. :D
Best of luck Marc, really hope it works out for you!

Jeff says in his book that you "even managed to score a girlfriend" through the show. Is this true?

It's like stand-offish.

FWIW I don't think I would use Internet dating because I'm terrible at interacting with people in that kind of loaded situation. But I don't have any problem with the concept or people that use it, so in the spirit of the poll I voted "yes".

We obviously expect regular updates now on how it's going.

Some of my top tips for dating based on my own personal experience:
At the cinema, don't ferret around in your pockets for the exact change and then say "Get mine while you're up there".
In a restaurant don't say "We'd better sit at the back: my wife thinks I'm working away"
When meeting a blind date for the first time don't say "I thought you were going to be thin* ".
In the pub don't say "My psychiatrist says I should avoid alcohol".
Don't offer to trade her for a mate for a packet of peanuts and 20p.
I've never met a woman yet who is utterly charmed by trying to fart/belch tunes.

Frighteningly, they're all true stories.

I was so tempted to say that I would not use Internet dating to find love buy may use it to find someone who is willing to lick my balls.

Phew, I am glad I didn't say that.

I think having been on Countdown helped me find the confidence I needed to pursue a girl in the first place.

Cheers Chris that means a lot to me.
Glad it works.
BTW what was the timeframe between first contact (IM or text) to actual gf/bf status?

About a month, but she'd just come out of a bad relationship and said at first that she wasn't looking for a relationship just yet (although, me being me, I assumed it was just a polite rejection). She originally intended to wait until the new year to decide whether to give a relationship a go, but ended up changing her mind and saying 'I think we're boyfriend and girlfriend now' much earlier than that, because she didn't want me to lose patience (I was actually very patient considering how frustrating it was!) :)

What most people don't realise is that they could be perfectly happy with about one in ten of the population. As long as someone is "nice"* they are attractive. When I got accepted into my job, I went through the following process:

1) Filled in application form. 93% of appliacnts were rejected.
2) Initial interview - passed
3) Serious interview - passed
4) Final interview - 10 passed/5 failed

I only mention this because do we go through a thorough process like this to find our life's partner? No. How did you meet your wife/husband/long-term partner? I know people who sat next to each other at school who later married, or worked in an office and were the only single people there and paired off. Or went to a pub/club and started chatting. Yet they refer to their partners as "one in a million" or a "soul mate". So, the chances of you finding 'love' on a dating site are incredibly high, because they are 'available'. If they are 'nice' as well you are 90% there.

After a long term relationship broke up a mate of mine was devestated, almost suicidal. I advised him to join a dating agency. He did. The first girl he met he later married, now have two children. True.

*I use a bland word - 'nice' - because it covers a whole range of desirable attributes, eg, pleasant, generous, not prone to violence, etc.

I am so tempted to take the piss here but since you seem to be honestly nervous even I can empathise with people on occasion. I have never went out on a blind date but dude, she obviously likes you since she actually wants to meet you. So whatever you have been doing in the virtual correspondence do the same when you meet her (as long as you haven't been spanking it out of her eyeline).

Absolutely nothing wrong with it Marc. In fact, I'd say it's potentially much more successful than just meeting someone in a pub.

We know several couples who have met on online dating sites and are happily married (and some with kids) and we know another couple who are getting married next year.

Oh well if someone (mr Baxter, will do) was to start a poll which would reinforce your opinion I will flounce off in a huff , otherwise I would still like to post from time.

Hmm, good luck to you, but I think getting a life -> girlfriend is a much healthier implication than girlfriend -> having a life.

(And yes I realise writing a post in pseudomathematical notation is not really conducive to either!)

As long as every post doesn't involve a horrendous pun that's more than cool with me.
