I had a look at some of the highest scoring Octochamps and added their fourth and fifth best scores and multiplied by four to get an eight game total. Make of it what you will. The score in brackets is their actual total.

No! And mine was one of the few that went down, which makes it totally gay.

You're alright - Chris Wills had to be talked down from a high building.

Because Charlie has had the Countdown Wiki up and running for a while now, I think we should play a rounding game when we figure out the averages of these people's scores. We can get as close as possible, and the people who win those games can get bragging rights.

I didn't think any 'game' could sound worse than 'Carey Countdown', but you've proven me wrong.

Why, are you not crazy about Drew Carey?
This other game that I thought of isn't anything like the Price is Right.

Jason, I think Ben Pugh would just cheat by using a calculator. It would never work.

Just out of interest I worked out my "duplicate score" - i.e. if you were doing duplicate and you got the points for all the words and numbers even if you get beaten by someone else in the room. Mine works out as 805. i.e. 746 plus 59 points in rounds where I got beaten by my opponent that would have scored had the opponent missed their word.

I've got a new statistical method for working out who the best octochamp ever it is. It involves a secret algorithm called the O'Nalgorithm and several co-efficients to do with difficulty of numbers rounds, appearances on the show and under-table masturbation, the details of which I shan't trouble your pretty little minds with.
Anyway it gives a score out of 10. Here are the results:
Jon O'Neill: 9
Jeffrey Hansford: 12
Martin Gardner: 0
Everyone else: -5
It gets interesting when we try to extrapolate those unfortunate non-octochamps. The two most notable outcomes:
Joseph Bolas: 89,246
Amey Deshpande: 89,246.1
I think that settles it once and for all, no?

Just out of interest, why is everyone obsessed with Amey Deshpande? Is it to do with getting on twice?

I'm not sure a calculator would really help on the Price is Right (apart from maybe in the final round).

We do the showcase differently.
The two top winners in every show face off and are presented with two showcases. You can either bid on your showcase or if you don't like it you can pass it to your opponent. If you're closer to your opponent, you win.
What do you suppose this will turn into, The Countdown is Right?

I started a rant in the mailing list because Amey had two goes at attempting to become an octochamp and thusly having a chance at winning a series, which I went too far with

It's a he, but I guess maybe if he had a sex change that would account for why he/she has been able to get on twice?

There has to be one Countdowner who has had a sex change, surely

There has, but I can't remember off the top of my head who it was. (cue Damian with a 'Christina Wills' joke)
