The recap writer suggested orpiments. Orpiment is a "native orange to lemon-yellow arsenic trisulfide" according to the dictionary, that was commonly used for pigments until we figured out how to make cadmium yellow. I have no idea what the mineral pluralization rule was at the time, so I am following current usage.

R7: ORPIMENT isn't described in NODE as a mass noun, and is also defined as an artist's pigment, so probably ORPIMENTS would be OK.

Hmmm, bit of controversy here... it is listed exclusively as a mass noun in my copy of the NODE. Apropos the 'mineral rule', that wasn't introduced until the start of Series 49 (CoC XI). I seem to recall that at the time all mass noun plurals were considered verboten, unless specified (which pretty much meant only plurals of mass nouns ending in a 'Y'!).

Had another look in NODE, and yes it does say 'mass noun' - I was thinking that only applied to the first (mineral) meaning.
