Since Facebook is well popular and stuff, I've added a "Thumbs Up" button similar to C4C, similar to Facebook's Like button. It's based on an existing mod but I specialised it quite a bit, so it's a C4C exclusive omg omg omg. The button is at the top right of each post. It's currently only available in the prosilver skin, but I'm working on that.

Edit: Now works in AeroGreen too.

Oh, you can also see a table of all Likes given and received by clicking the Likes link at the top right of any page, although it looks a bit messy in AeroGreen.

I am worried that if I 'like' posts made by other male members of the forum, people may think I am a gayer. Will my anonymity be preserved, or am I destined to have the world think I am a woofter?

Oh shit my name shows up - "Ryan Taylor likes this." Is there an "Unlike"? I don't want people thinking I like Raccoon!

Just make sure to 'like' at least two women's comments for every man's comment. This will be easy because WOMEN TALK A LOT!!!

When I click the 'Likes' page, it seems to show data for your (Charlie's) Likes, as opposed to mine. Or am I doing something wrong?

It works fine, it's just the column headers are wrong. They should read "Has Liked" and "Has Been Liked".

Amazing stuff Charlie, as you know I've been badgering you lightly about this for a while so it's amazingly pleasing.

Couple of queries - any notifications for when someone likes your posts, or you just have to notice it when you see the post?

Morei mportantly perhaps, I just logged on but apparently I have liked loads of posts already, for example I've liked 6 of your posts.
Where did this number come from, or was it just a by-product of some testing stuff? i've done a like on your OP and it has rightfully gone up to 7 likes.

i don't really do this <3 thing but <3

Looked around a few threads and now I've liked another two of your posts Charlie! Up to 9 phantomly.

Matt Morrison (me) has also liked me once, but I've not liked him at all.

I don't *think* I am. I have only liked one single post so far - your OP.

But under your avatar it reads:

Charlie Reams
Site Admin

Has liked you: 3 times
You have liked: 9 times

I've got no reasonable way of checking if you have liked 3 of my posts (seems feasible, although Ralph Gillions liking 3 and Burgin liking 2 seems a lot less feasible), but I know I have only liked 1 of yours and it started on 6, the like properly made it go up to 7, but then after reading a few threads, and not liking any more, it now sits at 9. Sorry I can't be more helpful, no idea what's going on as this is all based on a few moments' observation. Still, <3 and you know it.

I'll post this in here since it might be related (as you've probably done some kind of upgradey thing or something for the 'Like' business) - but I no longer get the "read" (not red) icon next to read subforums. I still get it next to read threads though (the not red icon), and I still get the "unread" (red) icon next to unread subforums. Also the picture of Rach and Jeff has been replaced by a big phpBB logo. I use prosilver.

There's one for me too. And I just "Liked" and then "Removed My Like" from this post. I might start using "remove my like" instead of the word "unlike" in everyday conversation.

Charlie Reams wrote:This will be easy because WOMEN TALK A LOT!!!
Racist.

This is demonstrably not true.

Women do not necessarily talk a lot; it just depends on the subject, and whether or not we feel we have anything to contribute to it. If the subject is pertinent we will contribute, and if it isn't we won't. QED. You'll notice from the football thread that there have been few female contributions, although if someone has the good sense to start a thread about Manolo Blahniks, or how women feel when in a relationship and everyone's perceptions thereof, and how these might be analysed, or how to knit the best cakes and bake the best kittens, there will be significant feminine contributions.

There has been much speculation in the scientific world about whether or not women actually talk more than men. To start with, this is a forum, so everything contributed is typed, rather than spoken. However, even substituting a different interface it could make little difference. While some studies have claimed women talk three times as much as men, other studies claim that women want to speak a certain number of words a day. Other studies have claimed that both men and women each speak approximately 16,000 words a day, with women having a negligible edge. Interestingly, in mixed gender groups women are usually reported to speak less, although when statuses amongst participants are equal the number of words spoken, speed at which they're spoken and subject matter have also been observed to be equal. These claims are surely at odds with each other so further research is surely needed on the subject before it can be claimed that 'women talk a lot'.

It's certainly true, though, that men's and women's brains are wired differently. The fact that women often discuss things that men aren't interested in could lead to the perception that women speak more than men. So, any man who believes women talk too much may see instances of women who are dominating a conversation as confirming their belief while seeing instances of women who say very little as mere exceptions to the rule. It has also been suggested that differences in the brain, and thus in communicative patterns, can be formed in the womb, although again this is controversial. Some theories attribute testosterone received during gestation as part of an indicator of a person's loquaciousness, while others consider it to be social conditioning. Whatever, someone's talkativity is almost certainly dependent on who they're with and what they're doing.

Of course women don't talk more than men.

You didn't take all that seriously, did you?
