Custom format unofficial high-score challenge...

Post by Matt Bayfield »

Inspired by the promise of unusual custom formats in Ben’s “Bash Week” thread, how about a thread where we set each other score targets to beat in custom format games? The first person to beat the target (and post here) then gets to play a different custom game of their choice, and their score in that custom game becomes the new target for people to break. So for example, if I start:

Format: Goatblind
Round structure: “standard” 15-rounder
Time limit: 3 seconds per round
The target I have set is 108 points.

Obviously, if there’s no interest in this, then this thread will sink naturally without trace. But if people are up for it, then it also acts as a semi-brag thread. Well, I’m quite proud of that score of 108, anyway.

So consider yourselves all challenged…

--Matt

PS It’s somewhat against the spirit, but not the letter, of this thread, to post custom formats which are impossible for most people to beat. For example, certain foreign language formats should perhaps be avoided. It's also against the spirit to have loads of goes at a custom format until you set a really high target for people to beat. Targets should be "achievable", whatever that means...

This is an awesome idea. Also, if you don't fancy doing 3 seconds try beating this :D

(Also consider this to be a petition to make Goatblind an official format)

Proof that even idiots can get well and truly mainwheeled.

Yes, this is cool. I condone it even if I don't have so much time to participate.

Beat it.

New challenge.

Variant: Junior
Format: Letters Attack
Speed: 3 seconds
Scoring: Maxes only.

Here's my effort, a measly attempt which yielded a score of 81. This will probably be beaten within the first attempt but so what! http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=229455

Congrats to Eoin for being the first to break my original target of 108. Mind you, it looks like one or two other scores have been posted tonight which beat your 110!

As for your lightning junior challenge, that score of 81 is quite a teaser. It's probably well within the reach of the top players on apterous, but for me, I've tried several times now and the closest I got was 75...

Or, if you pick the wrong type of "max scoring", this is a nice one to try to beat:
This. Not sure if it's been done before as I can't remember how to find all the records for custom variants.

Nearly bottled it but could have been a much bigger score.

112 here, including a laughably bad run where I couldn't delete the rubbish I'd put fast enough and it skipped past me with TRIA down. Still very very beatable obviously.

Had one game same format with CSW, crap letters and daft mistakes so even more beatable. Scored 87.
