Did anyone watch MOTD on Saturday? Alan Hansen was on about how Clarke shouldn't have been on Countdown last week because it distracted him from the game. Someone should direct Alan to the bit in the FAQ where it says how the show isn't recorded live.

I was super-awesome in 5-a-side just after I was on Countdown, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it Mr Hansen.

No. nothing is ruining Burnley FC, we are one of Britain's great institutions, and will go on forever. (And if West Ham do the decent thing and follow Portsmouth into administration, we might even stay in the Premier League. Though not if we play like we did on saturday.)

I always thought it was recorded live. The people on it look very live to me - well most of them do.

It is recorded as live. Therein lies the illusion!

lol. Of course it's recorded live (mostly). What Alan Hansen doesn't realise is that it's not transmitted live.

That was my (rather pointless) point

Alan Hansen made what he might call a schoolboy error in thinking the show was broadcast live. I doubt MOTD2 is, after all. The only effect Clarke's Countdown time might still be having on his is any ribbing he's got from his team-mates and the supporters.

I thought he was just making a joke. I am fairly sure that an experienced presenter would be aware that sometimes shows are not transmitted live.

This is all too much for me. The tics have started.

On 5 live just now: "and Clarke Carlisle joke whose form has been terrible since he won Countdown doesn't even make the bench. That's one 9 letter word he won't like by the end of the season - RELEGATED"

Radio 5 commentators struggle with the concept of recorded TV shows, so I dare say they're not too familiar with the idea of players being injured either? Carlisle's had 2 bad games, not consecutive.
