C1: JAUNT (5)
C2: JAUNT (5)
DC: TAUNT (5) TITAN (5)
OT: INTUIT (6)
Score: 5–5 (max 6)

INTUIT is to know or receive by intuition.

Round 2: C P D A E U C S E

C1: ESCAPED (7)
C2: ESCAPED (7)
DC: ACCUSED (7)
OT: ACCEDES (7) SPECCED (7) SUCCEED (7) UPCASED (7)
Score: 12–12 (max 13)

Round 3: A E A X M S T D R

C1: DREAMS (6)
C2: DREAMS (6)
DC: TRADES (6) MASTER (6)

Score: 18–18 (max 20)

The first 3 rounds were brought to you in association with Double Vision. :?

Nice darren by Jeff there as well. ;)

Round 4: H K R E I O G T R

C1: hogtie
C2: GORIER (6)
DC: RIOTER (6) RIGHTER (7)
OT: HERITOR (7)
Score: 18–24 (max 27)

The deadlock breaks after Adam's 6 is oinked out. That 6 also means that Clarke has already scored more points than his team so far this season.

HERITOR is a noun deriving from INHERITOR.

Round 5: 2, 1, 7, 5, 1, 4. Target: 453.

C1: 455. (7 x 5) x (((2 + 1) x 4) + 1) (7)
C2: -
RR: 455. (7)
Score: 25–24 (max 34)

A tricky numbers which is impossible, but Adam takes the lead with the best possible answer.

Jenni talks about texting and Twitter, where she apparently has 32,000 followers, which is 32,000 more than me.

Teatime teaser: CASHNETS -> SNATCHES

Round 6: L L S A E O R L M

C1: SLALOM (6)
C2: SMALLER (7)
OT: SLALOMER (8)
Score: 25–31 (max 42)

Ouch. Interestingly no-one mentions that adding the -ER makes SLALOMER. They probably zigzagged out of that one.

Round 7: I E O N F D M Q C

C1: COINED (6)
C2: DEMONIC (7)
DC: CONFIDE (7)
Score: 25–38 (max 49)

Round 8: S W G E I O D R S

C1: SWORDS (6)
C2: DOSSIER (7)
DC: WEIRDOS (7) GROSSED (7)
OT: DIGRESS (7) DOWRIES (7) ROWDIES (7) DOWSERS (7) DROWSES (7) SODGERS (7) WIDGERS (7)
Score: 25–45 (max 56)

Round 9: Y L H E O E S R V

C1: holers
C2: REVELS (6)
DC: RESOLVE (7) SHELVER (7)
OT: SHOVELER (8)
Score: 25–51 (max 64)

Maybe Adam wishes he had a hole in the head right now, his score has remained unaltered during this half.

Susie's Guess The Origin returns with Jenni in the hotseat.
She had to guess the origin of NESTEGG.

Was it:
a) In the 1940s/50s, it was the sum of money saved up for a very long time by married couples, who traditionally lived with their parents for a while, as a deposit for their first house or "nest".
b) A nickname, first used in the American Forces during World War I, for a child born out of wedlock, normally one conceived by an American G.I..
c) When poultry farmers placed a porcelain egg in a hen's nest to try and encourage it to lay more eggs.

Jenni incorrectly guessed a), it was c).

Round 10: 100, 9, 10, 4, 1, 8. Target: 594.

C1: 594. (100 - 1) x (10 - 4) (10)
C2: 594. (100 - 1) x (10 - 4) (10)
Score: 35–61 (max 74)

Teatime teaser: MENSALES -> NAMELESS

Round 11: O E A R P R B G D

C1: BADGER (6)
C2: BARRED (6)
DC: BOARDER (7) BROADER (7) ROARED (6)
OT: PEGBOARD (8) PROGRADE (8)
Score: 41–67 (max 82)

PROGRADE is having a rotational or orbital movement that is the same as most bodies within a celestial system.

Round 12: F A N E N V N I P

C1: PAIN (4)
C2: INANE (5)
DC: PINNAE (6)
OT: FINNAN (6) PENNIA (6)
Score: 41–72 (max 88)

FINNAN is a haddock usually baked, but sometimes broiled with lots of butter. Also a defender currently playing for Portsmouth, if they haven't been liquidated by now.

Round 13: T G S A E U T R T

C1: STATURE (7)
C2: STATUTE (7)
DC: STUTTER (7) TATTERS (7) GUTTERS (7)
OT: GUTTATE (7) TAUTEST (7) TARGETS (7) TARTEST (7)
Score: 48–79 (max 95)

And our footballer has become the new champ with that 7.

GUTTATE is resembling a drop, or having droplike markings.
TARTEST is the sharpest in character, spirit or expression.

Round 14: 75, 3, 6, 2, 7, 8. Target: 795.

C1: 796. ((7 + 3) x 75) + (8 x 6) - 2 (7)
C2: 793.
RR: 795. ((8 + 3) x 75) - ((7 - 2) x 6) (10)
Score: 55–79 (max 105)

Round 15: V I N E W R I T E

C2 buzzes on 16.5 seconds to say INTERVIEW which is correct.
Score: 55–89 (max 115)

So, our footballer has now got something to put on his mantlepiece after earning his Countdown teapot. Adam just fell apart in the 2nd part, and once that happened, it just looked like there was going to be 1 winner.

Join me tomorrow to see if Clarke can make it into the top 8, he'll at least have a better chance than his team :!:

See you then, bye.
