Spoilers For Monday February 1st 2010

by James Robinson
Well, it's a brilliant and happy new month. The cold snap may have returned to some areas, but there's nothing that a bit of Countdown warmth won't solve.

Unfortunately, James is not the champion after being unfortunately deposed by Howard Lovelady on Friday. That was a real shame. :( James is #3 seed for the time being, although his chances of reaching the finals do seem slim, especially if some more Apterous big guns turn up during the series.

Paul Zenon's tricks on Friday were some of the best tricks ever seen in Countdown history. It's a bit of a shame that he isn't in DC this week. Instead, we've got the journalist, broadcaster and original Loose Woman, Kaye Adams, making her first appearance for nearly 3 years.

Oh, and before I forget, congratulations to Kirky for winning the COLIN tournament on Saturday. ;) :) :D

Hopefully, next year, I'll be able to have a shot at claiming Kirky's title for myself, although the chances of me winning are probably slim to none.

"Unfortunately, James is not the champion after being unfortunately deposed ."

I'd have liked another unfortunately in there, I'm not sure you've quite communicated the tragedy of the situation.

Come on mate, you got two sad face emoticons! It's not like James gives those out willy-nilly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Adams has resorted to turning some excellent tricks herself down the years.

Hmmm. Round 1 - Was Howard maybe trying to get an E - surely not really necessary with an ING?

TERAPHIM for a beater in round 8. I remember I missed this against Damian once when he got it and he took the mick out of me saying I was slipping :P

No idea of the relevance of this, but hey. I don't actually...I had a day out with my dad in January but apart from that I don't go out spotting anywhere near as much as I used to/would like to. I used to enjoy freezing my nuts off for the rewards it brings but now I'd much rather stay indoors in the warm lol.

You're hard work to tease, Bevins. Oh, I did look up POLAROID - just had a sneaky hope it might have become non-generic. Hang on to your warm nuts while I bow to your greater knowledge.

Damn had given myself a score of 140 too!

I went for SOURC(e?)ABLE in the. It sounded great to me as a word, but it's probably got that extra E in, hasn't it? Otherwise it's SOUR CABLE.

SOURCEABLE isn't in either. I remember Dinos setting me a conundrum once and I couldn't get it and the answer was CRABLOUSE. Turns out it isn't valid and I had a go at him for plaguing my ODE brain. Luckily to say that I didn't spot the phoney 9 (although I also missed the valid 8s until after "8" was declared) :(

Congratulations to Norrie on seeing OVERLOADS nad therefpre blowing me away in round 13, unlucky for me. I kicked myself all the way back to York, because my paper clearly showed OVER and LOADS but the brain didn't kick in.

Looking forward to seeing Norrie's wife Carol on CD later in this series. She showed up this week in the audience cracking the conundrum.

CD is great fun, but it really is a fine line between being inspired and making silly mistakes.

Absolute respect for all multi champs and octos.

Still lovely to see that tea pot on the shelf!!

Aye I remember you scolding me for that. O'Donnell had set it me and funnily enough I solved it mid-coitus  I thought the CURE BOLAS scramble was pretty lolsome so passed it on, so to speak :?
