Disapproval
Hi, everyone!
So, I logged on to Apterous today and soon after found out that my bots were missing and that was because my subscription time had run out. That, I understand.
However, I was looking at my very bottom setting, and it said, "Trial player, 49 days left."
Charlie, I neglected to mention this to you, but right after I subscribed to the site, my mom made my close my Paypal account. This was because she said to me, "most people who attempt to make transactions are mean."
This is not to say that you are mean, but my mom said that you really never know what kind of people you run into when you make a Paypal account. I was not given notice of the matter at hand.
Please explain why you have done this now and remind me of what you do during the day.
Thank you!

I've heard rumours that Charlie provides logistical and financial support to the semi-legal Chiffres et Lettres dens across Normandy.

I did this now because your subscription ran out. I don't see the relevance of what I do during the day.Jason Larsen wrote: Please explain why you have done this now and remind me of what you do during the day.
Edit: But yeah, what Ian said.

Re: Disapproval
He wasn't given notice because there was no code to give notice, before I wrote it this morning. We've only just reached the point where people's subscriptions are likely to expire, so I didn't get around to it. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.Gavin Chipper wrote:He wants to know whyCharlie Reams wrote:Your subscription hadn't run out before. But Jason asked why "it" wasn't this way before. I'm not sure what "it" refers to but no one has ever been given notice before so it's not that. Basically I have no idea what Jason is talking about.

Charlie, why weren't we given notice of the 50-game rule until just a few days ago?

Hi, Peter!
I am not a new member.
Although I don't know who you are, I have been a member of Apterous for 2 years and have seen you for at least one. People should not have to donate any more than once if they do care to donate. I believe it was David O'Donnell who said he agreed with Charlie when he stated, "You'll never be stuck for an opponent again."
This is why I am shocked at the fact that Charlie says you have to donate as many times as you want to have such features as playing against bots.

Jason, if you only knew how many hours Charlie had put into programming Apterous alongside me, you would think that the subscription fee is criminally cheap.

Re: Disapproval
Apterous did not exist two years ago, so this is untrue. You've actually been a member since 13 September 2008, roughly 16 months.Jason Larsen wrote:I have been a member of Apterous for 2 years
It is made very clear when you sign up that £15 buys you one year. If you don't think it's worth £15 then don't pay.

Re: Disapproval
Jason, you get roughly 4 games for a penny! (US cent). I call that good value.
[Based on the sort of usage I think one or two Apterites go in for: 3 games per hour, 8 hours per day.]

Re: Disapproval
Jason, seriously, you need to get a grip.
You can barely buy a packet of fags and 2 pints of beer for the amount Charlie charges us per annum. If the fee were to be doubled (or even trebled) it would still be exceptional value for money.
If you can not justify to yourself why you should pay the subscription fee then I suggest you stop your pathetic whining and find yourself another site where you can play with yourself at such a reasonable cost.

Please stay legal tho, you've got to be careful with these 'special interest' sites.

I never said nor implied that you were not a new member. I don't know you either. Haven't seen anywhere that Charlie says you have to donate as many times as you want. Let's call a spade a spade here, There is a fantastic facility available to all in Apterous and the annual fee is really quite low for the value and time enjoyed by the members. A lot of time and effort has gone into the development of Apterous so dig deep and stop whining. I still think that Charlie giving a warning of 50 games left is very generous.

Re: Disapproval
I spoke to Jason last night, and apparently his worry was that when the 50 games was up, he would be banned irreversably from logging in to apterous ever again. Obviously this would be pretty pointless, and bad business, so that's not what happens. I'm not sure how we were supposed to infer this from his ramblings above, but anyway that's the situation. Thanks to those who've defended me; I hope you make many transactions in the future, and are not mean in so doing.

So, what does happen when the 50 games are up? We can still do everything we could as trial players before, except actually play?
(I was planning on subscribing at some point anyway, but now it will be even sooner. )

Yep. You can log in, use chat etc as normal. At least, that's what's supposed to happen. No one's managed it yet.Miriam Nussbaum wrote:So, what does happen when the 50 games are up? We can still do everything we could as trial players before, except actually play?

Re: Disapproval
Jason, why don't you give your Mum $24 and ask her to send it via Paypal (in £sterling, obviously)? Charlie's had my email address since I joined, and apart from all the love letters he sends me it really hasn't been a problem. I'm sure she'll agree it's worth the 6 1/2c a day once you show her how excellent the site is. Otherwise please come back on and show us a better site.
(And Charlie, please tell Jean-Baptiste there's no way I'd do that!!)

Phishing can only occur if the site you give your credit card details to is hacked or is itself untrustworthy. Since Paypal is a multibillion dollar business, that's really not likely.Jason Larsen wrote:And hope for no phishing, either

What I'm doing is trying to open up another account and make my debit card the default payment method. It's as simple as that.
