Round 1: T W G A I E R K D

C1: GRATED (6)
C2: GAITER (6)
DC: WAITER (6) GAWKIER (7)
OT: TRIAGED (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 7)

Round 2: R T D I A T O X E

C1: DOTTIER (7)
C2: ROTATED (7)
DC: ATTIRED (7)
OT: EXORDIA (7)
Score: 13–13 (max 14)

Round 3: G T V U O M N A U

C1: AMOUNT (6)
C2: MOUNT (5)
DC: OUTMAN (6) NOUGAT (6)
OT: AUTUMN (6) MOVANT (6) OUTGUN (6)
Score: 19–13 (max 20)

How many times have people forgotten to put the A in front of MOUNT on this show :!: :?: Well, Phil has joined that list and James goes into the lead for the first time today.

A MOVANT is a person in a proceeding who makes a motion, especially one who makes a motion for application for a court order or judgement.

Round 4: L L T A O P I T D

C1: TOTAL (5)
C2: DIAL (4)
DC: TALIPOT (7)
Score: 24–13 (max 27)

Round 5: 75, 25, 1, 3, 8, 9. Target: 181.

C1: 181. ((8 - 1) x 25) + (9 - 3) (10)
C2: 181. ((8 - 1) x 25) + (9 - 3) (10)
Score: 34–23 (max 37)

James tries to create an "Inverted-J" formation with his numbers, but it just ends up confusing poor Rachel.
Maybe James should stick to winning, and leave the interesting letter-number formations to me. ;) :) :D

Paul performs a magic trick involving Jeff's, Rachel's & Susie's rings. (Not THOSE rings :!: )

Teatime teaser: SCORETOE -> CREOSOTE

Round 6: N M S O E P A Q I

C1: MOPANES (7)
C2: PAINS (5)
OT: MOPANIS (7)
Score: 41–23 (max 44)

James uses one of his words from yesterday's show to extend his lead to a dozen and a half.

Round 7: T M V E O C I S L

C1: VIOLETS (7)
C2: CLOVES (6)
DC: COSTIVE (7)
OT: VICOMTES (8)
Score: 48–23 (max 52)

Susie gets the giggles while looking up the definitions of COSTIVE. Them being "constipated" and "not forthcoming".

A VICOMTE, unsurprisingly, is a French viscount.

Round 8: Y N S E I N D E S

C1: SINNED (6)
C2: SENDS (5)
DC: SNIDEY (6)
OT: DENIES (6) DIENES (6) SEINED (6) INDENE (6) SEINES (6) SENSEI (6) SEISED (6) SENSED (6) SNIDES (6) YENNED (6)
Score: 54–23 (max 58)

INDENE is a colorless, liquid hydrocarbon, C9H8, obtained from coal tar by fractional distillation. It's used in synthesizing resins.

Round 9: I A D S N I E S R

C1: SARDINES (8)
C2: SANDIER (7)
DC: ARIDNESS (8) AIRSIDES (8)
OT: AIRINESS (8) DIARISES (8) INSIDERS (8)
Score: 62–23 (max 66)

Interestingly this selection had 6 letters from the previous round in there, but Phil can't seem to score for toffee at the moment.

Susie's Origin Of Words talks of the origin of the magical word "grimoire". 8-)

Round 10: 25, 2, 5, 1, 3, 7. Target: 419.

C1: 419. (((5 x 3) + 2) x 25) - 7 + 1 (10)
C2: -
Score: 72–23 (max 76)

Phil has gone the whole 2nd half without scoring. :o

Teatime teaser: GETFIRED -> FIDGETER

Round 11: R S T O A E D A O

C1: ROOSTED (7)
C2: ROASTED (7)
DC: TORSADE (7)
OT: DASTOOR (7)
Score: 79–30 (max 83)

Phil scores in a letters round for the first time since Round 2.

Round 12: J B L A E R C A L

C1: RECALL (6)
C2: CALLER (6)
DC: cabler belljar
OT: JELLABA (7)
Score: 85–36 (max 90)

James has sealed the game, while DC have 2 of their own words disallowed. BELLJAR is BELL JAR incidentally.

JELLABA (or DJELLABAH) is a loose-fitting hooded gown or robe worn by men in North Africa.

Round 13: P H R E U B E R R

C1: PUREE (5)
C2: PURER (5)
DC: BURPEE (6)
OT: BEURRE (6)
Score: 90–41 (max 96)

Round 14: 50, 5, 6, 8, 7, 10. Target: 526.

C1: 526. ((7 - 5 + 50) x 10) + 6 (10)
C2: 521.
Score: 100–41 (max 106)

James gets another century to keep his average in 3 figures.

Round 15: F L E E C R Y P T

C1 buzzes on 12.75 seconds to say PERFECTLY which is correct.
Score: 110–41 (max 116)

A brilliant solve there from James gives him his highest score of his run so far. Odd that we had IMPERFECT as the conundrum just 5 days ago. :?

James definitely seems to have the chance of octochampdom, hopefully he won't let us Jameses down.

See you tomorrow to see if James can reach halfway.

Till then, bye bye.

Susie seemed to be giggling at the alternative meaning of COSTIVE, ie "not forthcoming" together with constipated.
I thought I was good at Countdown until I joined this forum
