Discussion and announcements relating to unofficial Countdown competitions, held online or in real life. Observation, discussion, reflection, and other stuff ending in -ion.
Lunch will consist of a jacket potato with a variety of fillings (including vegetarian), followed by hot, home-made apple crumble & custard.
Cost will be £2.50 (payable on the day) but I do need to know now who wants it so I can give my mum (the cook) exact numbers.
Count me in!
Would it be possible to provisionally count in friends/friends of friends (hopefully not more than 3 in total in my case) who are still deciding about the whole event?

I decided to book a hotel for me and my daughter in the end, remembering how knackered I was after doing CoLei2 in a day.
Just in case anyone else wants an alternative to the Travelodge, I thought I'd let you know that the Lincoln Holiday Inn Express has a 2 for 1 if you stay 2 nights, which means that it's £65 total for 2 nights for 2 adults (plus up to 2 children under 18) including continental breakfast:

Continental breakfasts are such a cop out. Full English breakfasts are the way to go.
I agree, Kirk. But then, Travelodges don't do brekkie at all.
Last year, we did a 2 night B&B (full English) plus dinner on one night deal at the proper Holiday Inn, but the rates this year are a bit too pricey for me (over £200!!!! ).

No lunch for me thanks Ben. With all these apple crumbles going begging (Kirk can't possibly eat them all) I plan to buy some at a knockdown price and that should keep me going. I LOVE apple crumble.

Why not come this year, Gavin? I would genuinely love to meet you, and I'm not being snarky or anything with that. I know we've had our fallings-out in the past, but that's all long forgotten now (by me, anyway). Go on, do it!

Echoed, but without the fallings-out because we've never had any of them x
I am actually genuinely busy on the 30th January this year. But there are other things throughout the year anyway aren't there? We'll see and I might be better at Countdown in a year's time anyway.
If Gev's not coming, can I have his crumble? Kirk's bagged everyone else's. I didn't get this thin by turning down pudding. It would be lovely to meet him at an event where they serve, say, salad.
And a lunch (both courses) for me too, please, Ben. The apple crumble might even make up for the 'official' CoLin pub no longer doing food Although I think I might just fall asleep after lunch rather than play any more Countdown! And I agree, it would be awesome to finally meet Gevin/Gavin! Come on, make it soon - it would be great to finally put a face to the name(s)!!
Josh/Jack, I think I'm going to a birthday party on Saturday evening so won't be pubbing it afterwards. Sorry to be a pain in the arse - just thought I'd let you know incase you wanted to stay so that you can look at trains back.

Will we be going elsewhere for the post-CoLin2010 do then?
I'd like to know where, so I can find out the postcode for my sat nav. Easier than trying to follow other cars!

Count me in for lunch please Ben. Kirk isn't going anywhere near my apple crumble! Cheers for the heads up Darren. I'm not really going be accessible/contactable until you see me, so I'll leave all correspondence between you and Jack if that's ok?

When I said two lunches for me, I was including the one for Josh thinking he wouldnt post here. D'oh.
I was just checking trains from Cardiff to Lincoln and the journey seems rather brutal. Just on the off-chance I was wondering whether I could meet one of you, who are driving, at one of the stops and share travel expenses. I am not an expert on UK geography but I am fairly sure the train route is not as the crow flies. At least I'll have a built-in excuse for sucking at this thing and it will deflect attention from my cheating on apterous.

Going from Worcester if that's any help? I'm picking Adam up in Malvern too, or don't mind swinging into a different station en route. You can slump on the way
The wiki page has just been updated to state that there are 4 places left. I'm guessing this means the person who did the update has just signed up, but the official page is yet to be updated to this effect.
Ben, are you back from Belfast yet? I've noticed that somebody's updated the wiki page to state that 33 people are now signed up, but the official page still lists only 31. Which is correct?
I'm perfectly capable of reading a map (before the jokes start) but in this age of technology I'm far too lazy. Can I therefore please have a postcode to use the SatNav? I solemnly promise not to give Alec a lift anywhere

Thank you!
A quick browse of the COLIN site produces LN6 8JB.

lol. No need to feel bad, Lesley; no harm was done at all. I still ended up on the same train from London to Folkestone as I would have been had you taken the slightly shorter route, so I'm just as grateful for the lift. And don't panic, on Saturday I shall come by car because there's no decent homeward train journey. x
