Later this year, Countdown is being released on the Wii.

Yeah, it was discussed on the forum about a couple of months ago.

It's also coming out on the DS at the same time.

I believe it's £29.99 for the Wii version and £14.99 for the DS version. That's if you get it off Amazon.

Providing it doesn't breach the terms of his restraining order.

UPDATE: The Wii version is now available at Amazon for £17.96! Out on November 13.

The DS version is out on October 30.

Is anyone here actually considering buying this?

I wonder if contains the voices of Jeff & Rachel? Highly unlikely I presume but it'd be great if it did.

Based on the pictures you can see on Amazon, I seriously doubt it.

Having said that, I was actually wondering the other day what Rachel was doing.

Just before one of the shows, she was asked to do some posing by the letters board and nothing else. She wore the same grey dress that she wore yesterday and then just left and changed into another dress. :?

I wonder if anyone can explain that. Maybe Damian can answer that for me.

Yup, I've got them on pre-order. Thought they could be fun, and also a way of getting my kids to possible enjoy the game, which they haven't shown an interest in as yet.

I'm hoping you just pick the letters and vowels yourself like on Apterous rather than the DVD game which picked themselves and you would find repeats after playing it more than three times....

At least we don't have to ask the "Vanna White question" with Rachel!

Julie, I know Alex has never shown an interest in Countdown, but do you think Claire, Robert or Henry ever will?

Thomas, I don't think Jeff and Rachel are in the Wii game because the game was being taken into consideration long before Jeff and Rachel were the new hosts.

Just to clarify, the Wii and DS games do not contain voices of Jeff and Rachel.

There are 'awards' you can win as you play along, rather like Charlie's flakes and baseball caps etc, although i don't remember what they are.

The DS version is the better of the 2 in my opinion. The slightly weird thing about the Wii version is the 2 player option. Obviously there is only 1 television screen, so it's a case of 'look away now' while your opponent enters their word, otherwise you can just replicate everything that they enter. Oh and you DO pick your letters, it's not limited to a certain number of rounds like the DVD game was.

I'm planning on picking up the DS game though I hold out very little hope in it having a fraction of the quality apterous has.

That seems a harsh criticism - surely that's true of any incarnation that doesn't have you playing at separate locations. You could even extend it to the show itself, hence the "you have to have your answer written down" rule.

Do you know if they have the correct dictionary Damian, or at least the ability to amend/overrule the inbuilt one? I reckon that'll be the absolute clincher (for most people on here at least). I couldn't play the mobile version because of the horrible dictionary (and I'm not just on about obscure words either). It had other bugs, but that just rendered it utterly unplayable.

Ooh, wasn't criticising it. Just surprised they went to the lengths of having a 2 player mode when it's not very playable.

I'm not telling you, for posting like a nerd.

Robert isn't capable of playing, and, you're right in that Alex is quite dismissive of Countdown, so his conversion to 'the one true path' ;) is unlikely!

Henry has recently shown an interest in junior apterous, though, so I'm quite confident that he will play, and I think that Claire and Philip might be swayed by versions on their beloved Nintendo machines. :)

I know, video games are similar on different systems.

Julie, I just might meet Henry, and that's great! He seems like a very open person. I look forward to meeting him!

Yes, i understand that the OUP have licenced the ODE for the DS and Wii.

Should be 100% fine as far as words go etc. No idea what they did about conundrums though. I only tested a beta version for an hour or so and spent half that time trying to wrestle the console back from my boy who wanted to 'get this off and put Super Mario brothers on'.

Given the previous OUP licensing jobs, I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

Has anyone got either version yet? Any good?

Tempted to buy it my sister for Christmas - "I thought you've always liked Countdown? No? Oh well I guess I will play it then" sort of thing.

If by "either version" you mean the Wii one and the Nintendo DS one, Julie has reviewed the DS one here.

Your original Wii thread is here, but no one appears to have actually played that one yet.
