Countdown recap for Monday 21 September 2009.

C1: Champion Jeffrey Burgin (3 wins, 247 points.)
C2: Challenger Russell Langdown.
DC: Susie Dent and Colin Murray.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Strange, Rachel, Susie, Jeff and Jeffrey the champion seem to have aged by over two months since we last saw them only last Friday. Jeffrey now tells us that he is about to go to Merton College, Oxford. Jeff tells us that today is the birthday of Liam Gallagher and Larry Hagman (maybe this is going to be a new regular spot), and Colin, in his second visit to Dictionary Corner reminds us that when he was last here, Kirk was playing. Colin hopes that this week's contestants will allow DC to get a few words. For Jeffrey's fourth match, his challenger is Russell, a retail manager from Gillingham in Dorset. He is keen on darts, in particular the tournament which takes place at the Lakeside, and he still considers the day he got married to be the best day of his life - obviously still very young, or maybe his wife's in the audience.

Colin has his wish, two winners for DC.

Probably I'm one of the few forum members unable to remember that SEEDINGS is invalid, and that EDGINESS is the safe alternative. Next time maybe...

C2: 357.
Score: 37–14 (max 39)

Colin talks about birthday boy Liam Gallager and the animosity he shares with his brother, relating some of the cutting remarks they've said about each other.

Teatime teaser: DICKBULL -> DUCKBILL

Teatime teaser: PILLPOOL -> LOLLIPOP

Round 11: T K J E O A S G F

C1: GASKET (6)
C2: STOKE (5)
OT: KOFTAS (6)
Score: 74–30 (max 85)

44 points behind now, Russell is going to need a nine letter word in the next two rounds.

Round 12: T O D E L A R E T

C1: LEOTARD (7)
C2: TOLERATED (18)
Score: 74–48 (max 103)

And he gets it, Jeffrey and DC probably both concentating so much on the Countdown favourite, LEOTARD, that they miss the nine.

Round 13: R N Q I E I N S D

C1: INSIDER (7)
C2: DINNERS (7)
Score: 81–55 (max 110)

Russell needed that round as well, so it's game to Jeffrey, with two rounds to play.

Round 15: T R A D E S F U R

C2 buzzes on 2 seconds to say FRAUDSTER which is correct.
Score: 91–75 (max 130)

So the loser gets the conundrum - funny how often that happens. And Jeffrey is half way to his octochamp target.

I see that since I last did one, some statistics have crept into Monday recaps, so I'd better try to keep up to the new standard.
