Has anyone seen this? Looks pretty good but I haven't seen it yet, would I like it?

I haven't seen it, but the sequel Cube 2:Hypercube also looks great.

Oh and there's a third: Cube Zero

I think I saw the second half of it a few years ago. All I remember was that it was a bit weird, but that if I saw it now I'd think it was awesome.

It's quite good fun if you like slapstick barbarity.

It's also one of those films with very little context to figure out what's actually going on. I came up with a rather unsatisfying theological explanation after pondering it for a bit, but if you like films where everything is eventually explained it will drive you nuts.

As long as there's some sort of internal logic to what's going on I'll be pleased.

Bloody hell - you've woken up some sleeping part of my brain here. I'm sure that I have seen The Cube but can only remember snatches * of it like some half remembered dream. I go to the cinema around 3 times a week so see hundreds of films (arthouse and world cinema mainly) but when people ask me what I've seen recently - my mind goes blank.

I saw Fermat's Room recently enough to remember I enjoyed it - I'm sure that would appeal to forumites

That film FRIERDIET me as a child. Vaguely recall there was something to do with rotating rooms, prime numbers and sucking buttons to stay alive, but then got too scared and went and hid under my Goosebumps duvet.

Another film I've only half seen! Sat in it on my break at work and really enjoyed it. Must look into getting that on DVD. Spanish films are another passion of mine, especially those by Pedro Almodovar, not least because they usually star Penelope Cruz

Si, Yo quiero Pedro muchas (yo no hablo Espanol). But how do you pronounce his surname? Where do you put the emphasise? I was getting it wrong for years and realised my mistake when a member of the Almodovar appreciation club came to the cinema where I work to give an introductory talk at the screening of Volver. (Which was screened following a season of his films, so I got to see loads of them - hurrah!)

Well I rarely use his name in conversation, mostly just see it on posters! Vaguely recall my GCSE Spanish teacher saying Almo-DO-var but my Spanish tongue seems to want to put the emphasis on the last syllable. I see a pelicula-fest happening in my flat soon!

Well, I'd always know him as Al MO dovAr but the expect fella did indeed, as you've suggested, say Almo DOvar. I saw the poster (and the trailer) for Broken Embraces tonight and there is an accent on that second O. (Which is strange because I recall from Spanish O level decades ago that the accent is naturally always on the penultimate vowel anyway) But when I say it properly, I can't help thinking people think I wrong, and showing myself as being an ignorant philistine. The film looks great though!

No. It's true of Welsh and (IIRC) Italian, but not Spanish, which uses an acute accent over a vowel to indicate stress; unaccented words have more-or-less equally stressed syllables.
