Today has a French connection, so will Andrew triumph again on Bastille day, or will REDTOPVAN Paris match him all the way?

Yes, word of the series for me (so far). I was quite pleased with 7.

Is it ironic that a Davina McCall advert just came on?

I don't follow...

We've had discussions on here before about the definition of the word "ironic", so I asked if it was ironic that that advert should come on, right after Ian Hyland spoke of his relationship with Davina, and made an allusion to her adverts.

Ah, missed his bit...

Apologies, would have looked it up first but connection here is dodge and can't load apterous properly at moment. He's not happy. He's got his Collins dictionary and he aint happy!

Anyway, super show Andrew... great score against a half decent opponent.

I also have the Collins and was self-congratulating on ALIMENTAL (pooh). Yesterday it had SWATTER - it never ceases to amaze me how two similarly sized dictionaries can diverge so much.
Interestingly OxRef Online has ALIMENTAL in its Australian and New Zealand dictionaries.

It's almost like a lot of the decisions are based on arbitrary editorializing rather than any real statistics...

EXTRINSIC is spot of the series (i had INCITERS for 8) so far, well done mate. I went from being 14 up to 4 down just like that!
GOOSANDER is DCs spot of the series too - that's two nines I missed this episode.

By my calculations, to beat 925 you need to average 112 in the last 4 shows. That's very doable and I'm starting to quake. Here's hoping you have some shit letters and no more nines.

It's not often I beat so many top players, so I'm just posting to say that I was shouting 'Consonant, Pick a Consonant, be a C, a C!!!' before the last letter came up. And he did, it was, and I had a nine. Quality spot Andrew. :D
You're slipping on the conundrums though, there was time for a light to come on on the clock :o

In 1 round I thought I had a belter with SHADOUF - but it's only in the full OED as a variant spelling

I keep getting nervous whenever the challengers do their numbers selections - I'm worried they're going to say "fuck it, 6 small" and screw up your chances of setting a new high score record.

I was absolutely hammered by Andrew today, well played sir. EXTRINSIC was amazing.

Just an alternative numbers R5
(50-10-4+1)*(9-6)=111

I just managed to beat Andrew yesterday, but I was completely out of hus league today, although I did get PITHEAD and he didn't, so a little bit of joy there.

Two more alternatives to the first numbers game:

9 + 6 = 15

15 - 4 = 11

11 x 10 = 110

110 + 1 = 111

and

50 x 4 = 200

9 x 10 = 90

200 - 90 = 110

110 + 1 = 111

Nah, Andrew already has an average of 119.75, so his chances must be good. Looks like that's one of your records going, Kirk. Having said that, do you have any other records apart from first perfect game and the 925 points :?:

Without blowing my own trumpet the conundrum was re-shot and there was no light with the original ;)

Lol, not really a massive spoiler I guess. Anyone who's that offended by knowing that 6 small numbers are picked at some point is pretty pernickity (sp?); besides I might just have been lying.

Also wanted to add that I was dead happy with EXTRINSIC, as it was a "pure" spot, i.e. nothing to do with any apterous training.

Only thing that I think apterous helped that much with today was apheous??! Anyone got any ideas where the chuff I got that from?!

Clearly my three exclamation marks wasn't sufficient to convey the fact I was joking :(

It seemed to be some blend of amorphous, aphesis, amphoras and aqueous at least.

I'd say aphasia too, except I'm finding it difficult.
