Countdown recap for Monday 29 June 2009.
C1: Champion Innis Carson (2 wins, 221 points.)
C2: Challenger Duncan MacPhail.
DC: Susie Dent and Matt Le Tissier.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.
Innis stormed in last week with a century in each of his opening games. How much further will he go? Facing him today is Duncan, a telecommunications trainer from Bath. He's visited numerous counties, both in his work, and at a taster for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
New to Dictionary Corner this week is former Southampton and England footballer Matt Le Tissier, probably only the second week ever that we've had an ex footballer as the DC guest.

Matt tells us that shortly after he retired from playing, he was mistaken by the landlord of a Southampton pub for Phil Tuffnell. (I'd never seen the likeness before, but I certainly did as he came to the end of that tale.) Matt also told us that during his time at Southampton he had offers to join Spurs and a few lesser known clubs, but (regrettably) he decided to stay at Southampton.
Teatime teaser: STAGTREE -> GREATEST

Score: 111–61 (max 119)
A very appropriate day for the return of this conundrum, which previously appeared when the show's producer managed to solve it in the final in which he himself appeared.
Another excellent performance by Innis. Even though he was beaten on one round, he was still only 8 points short of a possible maximum score. Now having scored three centuries out of three, tune in tomorrow to see if he can make it four.
As I am due to be released into the community for a while and not expected to be readmitted into custody until September (assuming I can be found) this is my last recap for a couple of months. In the meantime, Mondays will be in the very safe hands of The Kid.
