Vague news

Post by Jason Larsen »

As of today, the company called Granada America is renamed, "ITV Studios Inc."

I find this interesting because the names of our American broadcast networks are:

ABC
NBC
CBS
PBS
FOX
My Network TV and
The CW

There is no such network as ITV in America, so now we can say that there will not be an American version of that network nor can we say that it will be bought out by British people to run. Two different groups of people have tried, and failed, to Americanize Countdown, so why would an American company based on a British one change its name to reflect a network that doesn't even exist in the US?

Is it called corporate sponsorship?

Granada TV is no longer called Granada TV in the UK either. It now says 'ITV Studios' after Coronation Street, etc. As a resident of Granadaland, I find this a little sad.

I just don't know the point of them doing this.

Is that a reference to the Wedding Present track, or is "Granadaland" a general term? I've never heard of it other than that. Excellent song though.

It's funny that some people say ITV got worse after they stopped broadcasting local programming.

The "etc", of course, including Countdown.

Anyone know what the ITV Studios logo is supposed to represent? It looks like an bad anatomical depiction of a stomach, or an embryo in early development. It's probably something blindingly obvious but I can't fathom it out at all.

I think it's just a generic bloom symbol, but one which doesn't look like a real flower - like an art student's interpretation of a new production company in bloom.

Or should that be a blooming new production company?

Its Casper the friendly ghost on crack.
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Maybe it could be a pound sign.

Also, Phil, a peacock is the symbol for our oldest network, NBC.
