Here's the draw for the first round then. Each competitor was assigned a random number, which my assistant for these quarter-finals, Henry Meier, then selected. The first round have been pitted against each other as so:
Ian Volante vs Innis Carson
Ben Hunter vs Eoin Monaghan
Ben Wilson vs Simon Myers
Kai Laddiman vs Jon O'Neill
Michael Wallace vs Kirk Bevins
Ian Dent vs Oliver Garner
Aaron Higgs vs Paul Howe
Charlie Reams vs Neil Zussman
Game on!

Only seven matches? Lot of quarters, but not so many for a previous round?!

You do realise there will be 7 winners, so one will have to receive a bye in the next round? Finding two more competitors would surely make it easier?

I'm assuming the other match is Charlie v Neil, but this has somehow been omitted.

Would it not be better as goatblitz rather than standard? Solving the numbers in 5 seconds is going to be a pain.

It still doesn't explain how there's 16 quarter-finalists....

Sorry about the cock ups there, everything's sorted now. I'd blame it on the fact it was 5 in the morning, but I felt wide awake at the time so I have no excuse.
Paul Howe wrote:Would it not be better as goatblitz rather than standard? Solving the numbers in 5 seconds is going to be a pain.
It would be better and I was thinking about doing it goatblitz instead, but it means setting up custom rounds. If no one objects though I'll change it to goatblitz.
edit: I've gone ahead and changed it to goatblitz. I'm sure it won't be too much hassle to set up custom rounds.

FFS, why did you change it from goatdown to goatblitz? Now Paul is gonna walk it. At least with the numbers fudging the rest of us had a smidgeon of a shout.

Thanks Oli, I'm glad someone else has noticed the injustice of it all.
Goatblitz has no numbers, right? So it doesn't matter if I don't practice beforehand with the new interface. That's good. In that case Charlie, if you see me online feel free to challenge, and I shall do likewise.

Rot.
Yet another competition exit due to lag; I had typed in RE for the last conundrum, then it went to Jono. I demand a refund / rematch / bye.

If you only hit two keys, there's every chance that in real time Jono buzzed before you.

Bit of a

I think it's more fun without numbers. I think the 5 second limit gives any pretty good player a decent shout at this tournament, as Paul and Aaron's game shows.

To my considerable surprise, I
avoided another first-round exit. Neil seemed to be hitting his stride towards the end but luckily the game ended before I could take any more damage.

My lack of practise recently caught up with me in a big way. Pleased with round 14 though, but a bit surprised you missed it. Not to take anything away from you though, 11 maxes would've beaten me on a good day, so well done. And the last conundrum was a great spot too.
Also, who picked what is back to front, but since it's been mentioned so many times before, I won't mention it.

Well played everybody, we've already seen some pretty good games. The strongest link in round 1, with 113 points, was Charlie Reams. The best performing loser, with 90 points, was Kai Laddiman. As the losers pick themselves up from defeat, the winners progress onto the quarter-finals, and they were drawn randomly (with the help of Kevin Manthorpe) as follows:
Ben Wilson vs Jon O'Neill
Kirk Bevins vs Charlie Reams
Innis Carson vs Eoin Monaghan
Paul Howe vs Oliver Garner
So let's get it on!

Cracking game, basically won on the conundrums.

Innis 74-56 Eoin
Another good game, if it wasn't for Eoin's slight blank after the second conundrum things could have been very different.
