That was one photo-op I couldn't resist. It was just about worth enduring HWMBO's withering sarcasm as I attempted to explain why I'd yelled for him to stop the car at this particular spot and insisted he take a photo of me.

The town of Soo is a couple of miles inland from Club La Santa, the legendary sports training centre, organisers of the notorious Lanzarote Ironman and a mecca for all those who take fitness seriously - people who are in single-minded pursuit of perfection in terms of physical conditioning. (We went so we could wander round for an hour or so goggling at fit blokes in Lycra.)

I'm going there in the summer holidays and have done so for the last 4 years
