Octostats
Somehow I forgot to add Martin Bishop to the ranks at the time, so I've added him now. Interestingly he has the 5th highest max percentage of all time, and the lowest available max of anyone in the 800 club. Pretty cool.

Re: Octostats
I'll repeat a post I made elsewhere:
Also, why are there so many gaps in the data? Surely, for example, you know how old Beevers, Briers and D'OD were? Or are they just shy about revealing their age? And how can you know, in some cases, how many 9's were available but not how many were found?
Also, Sweyn Kirkness is a quality name
Just for the record, I'm only 20, not 21. And also, I got 6 conundrums. But never mind, I'm just happy to be on the list!Charlie Reams wrote:Octostats now updated with Neil's games. 2 nines out of 3 ain't bad, especially when the missed one was a DC beater.

In fact, Martin actually has the lowest available max of anyone at all (that you have data for).Charlie Reams wrote:Somehow I forgot to add Martin Bishop to the ranks at the time, so I've added him now. I tried to work out your age from Facebook but obviously my arithmetic is a bit lacking. And my ability to count up to 6.Neil Zussman wrote:I'll repeat a post I made elsewhere:

With age data it's mainly that I just never bothered to find out. Likewise with 9s available, Julian went through and counted them all, but he didn't count nines found and it's a pretty boring task to do that yourself. But if anyone wants to do it, I'll add it.Also, why are there so many gaps in the data? Surely, for example, you know how old Beevers, Briers and D'OD were? Re: Octostats
As you may have noticed, Mike Brown sent me the scans for Julian Fell's games this morning so Sid and I have had a pleasant day of recapping them all. For anyone who doesn't know, Julian holds the record for highest octochamp points total (924) and has often been heralded as the greatest of all time. You can read all 8 games over in the Historical recaps section. The other good news is that I can now add his full stats to the Octostats page on CDB, which also shows that his score of 924 from a possible 1015 (91.0%) is the second highest ratio ever, after Craig Beevers' 92.1%. Exciting stuff!

Re: Octostats
My max for the 8 games is actually wrong, after Julian managed to find DOORCASES in the dictionary under DOOR FRAME.
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?
Re: Octostats
This is pleasing news. I think Martin was a very good player and it was such a shame he couldn't be at the CofC.

That's just missing data I think, he actually got 7 out of 8 conundrums.

Re: Octostats
Pretty sure that Chris Wills ago got 7 conundrums; NAVIGATOR was the only one to allude him (see his experience on The Countdown Page which confirms this).

Re: Octostats
Something I'd be interested in is the highest score in eight consecutive games that anyone's got at home (although I know people score themselves in different ways). Anyone want to make an opening bid?

Re: Octostats
I was working on the 'consecutive games record', I can come up with the following. So far these are all Julian Fell, I won't factor in Kirk until at least the end of this Series:
#1 game : 146
#2 games : 146 + 125 (271)
#3 games : 146 + 125 + 138 (409)
#4 games : 146 + 125 + 138 + 122 (531)
In fairness, these are stupidly good. Let's see someone break all those.

Re: Octostats
I've been recording all the possible octoruns since September on a spreadsheet. My average octorun is 913 and my chance of beating 924 was just less than 40% according to past games. My highest octorun is 961 and coincides exactly with Charlie Reams' run.Gavin Chipper wrote:Something I'd be interested in is the highest score in eight consecutive games that anyone's got at home (although I know people score themselves in different ways). Just for the sake of the stats - I was 30 in my octo-run.
Re: Octostats
According to those stats, Craig Beevers didnt solve one conundrum, yet he only dropped 78 points. Im assuming that the column for his conundrums is wrong.

It is, Craig got 7/8. He only missed STAGDROOP (may not be actual scramble).JackHurst wrote:According to those stats, Craig Beevers didnt solve one conundrum, yet he only dropped 78 points. Im assuming that the column for his conundrums is wrong.

Re: Octostats
Updated octostats with Shane Roberts, whose total of 766 makes him joint 42nd with John Davies, or 38th by percentage (766 out of 1004.)
